Titanic Letterheads 2012

Post by James Kelly »

We will be hosting a Letterheads event in July 2012 just outside Belfast, Northern Ireland. The name of the event will be Titanic Letterheads & WallDogs 2012 and will be hosted at the Ulster Folk and transport Museum just 10 minutes from Belfast city.

The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum is a 'living museum' situated on a 170 acre site. It has a reconstructed village based on the early 1900's with houses, churches, shops, a blacksmiths, etc. and of course... a pub. The site is also home to the Ulster Transport Museum with steam trains and vintage vehicles of all kinds.

At the meet will be held over five days during that time letterheads and walldogs will be repainting some of the signage for the village shops as well as a few period murals around the village and on the walls of the Transport Museum. There will be plenty of hands-on workshops and coach trips to some of Northern Ireland's landmarks. The main theme of the event is the Titanic which celebrates its centenary and the UFTM also hosts the Titanic Exhibition.

There will be accommodation available on site and space will be made available for camping and caravaning. If you prefer, there are many hotels and B&B in the area.

Helen and I and some of the admin of the UFTM have been organising this for over a year already and although three years seems a long way off, we intend using the time to make this the best Letterheads meet ever. In the next few days we will be launching an event website where you will be able to offer your suggestions and keep track of the event's progress.

James.
I Look forward to this meeting.I know you and Helen can make this happen good for you guy's to take this on. Belfast is great place to visit.
1 idea ......See if you can find some pictures of the original acid tonned and cut glass that was on board the ship. We could re - make them for the meet as project.
I seen a programme about the ship interior it showed the glass inside the ship. some very fancy work going on those panels.

planning a meet of this magnitude deserves three years...
good luck, I'm looking forward to it, and I'll be reserving the whole month of July 2012 to be there.
(I hope this doesn't refrain from others attending).

UK meets 2010

Post by Steven Vigeant »

It looks like I know what I'll be doing in 2012. What does the rest of the UK scene look like before that? Is there anything in the works for 2010 that anyone has heard of? It sounds so futuristic we'll probably have cell phone attachment that willl beam us there by then, which would be handy.

Look forward to meeting you folks. I know it is a long way off but we really do mean to make this an event you'll remember for the rest of your lives.

Dave, that's a fantastic idea, I'll get onto the curator of the museum and Titanic Exhibition and see what he can get. We'll have to organise a good day out to the Crown Bar too. Just to see the great graphics of course.

Are there any updates on the progress of your meeting? Do you have a website dedicated to meeting news? I hope to attend, and I want to find out more.

Thanks,

Love to know if this is still going to go ahead as I have a sister in Belfast which makes accommodation no problem.

Is this gathering still a goer? I was planning to come over from Australia anyway in 2012 to visit the relatives in Belfast and Bangor and this would be perfect. Please contact me at trekker1701@optusnet.com.au or through my website www.thesignlady.com.au
Thanks, Judith mcGinness.

That's awesome news. I last visited the Folk Museum when we were "both" young in 1976. But I have spent more time in the Crown on recent visits, and can totally recommend it.

Sorry folks, but the event is cancelled. My wife Helen says she won't be able to cope with a baby and help run a large meet at the same time and I certainly can't organise it all on my own. So unfortunately I have no choice but to cancel the meeting now rather than waiting to see if help will be available and possibly letting many people down at the last minute.

Sorry to hear that James, I am sure the help was/is available, I know putting on an international meet takes over your life for quite some time, I was really looking forward to visiting the North ,I'll keep it on hold for now

James,
I was looking forward to seeing the Emerald Isle and participating in this event.
However, as much as we value preserving the legacy of our craft through such events, your wife and baby are the ones who deserve the true legacy of your time and energy. Better to face the music now and cancel.
Take care of your family and years from now you'll be glad.
