I don't do much gold leaf so this is only a guess. I wonder if it's patent leaf? If it comes off the tissue while pressing then it may be?

Re: Large Scale Printed Design
If it's a picture or copy of some sort, scan it into your computer and put the file on a jump drive. Find an office supply store and some wally worlds can print 4' or larger. If it's just for tracing then quality is not much of an issue so draft mode may not be as much. I have also taken pictures (w...

How is this done
I mainly do etched glass and just dabble in gold leaf work so this is beyond me. I don't post much as I don't do much in the way of the techniques some of you masters do. So not much to offer. Anyway, I am trying to figure how the bevel is done on the image below (not my work, just something I grabb...

Re: Restoring Victorian Era Transom Gilds.
Nice job Andrew and nice that you have so much of it in your area.
I have not done much gilding so just a curious question. What would the drop of detergent do and when would a person use that.
Thank you for any info on that.

Re: Lithochrome paint
Doug thank you for responding. Lithocrome is more of a resin paint that wicks into the pours of stone. I have tried rubbing potato both warm and frozen over the pavers and that helped some but when any chunks went into the letters then it took as much time to clean as it did to just paint with a lit...

Lithochrome paint
Not really a hand lettering question but I know some on here do engraving but maybe not much in rock and pavers. I have talked with several on this and no one has any suggestions so I am asking here. I am re painting a bunch of engraved pavers on a project I am taking over. I generally engrave paver...

Re: Deep etching of glass
Vitaly I am certainly no sign expert but I do a fair amount of etched glass and this can easily be done sand carving.
Looking at the elements on either side of the T looks sand carved to me.

Re: etched tempered glass problem...
Vance just open the photo in corel, select it then go to the top toolbar "bitmap" Now go to "resample" in the resolution box set it to 96 or 72 dpi. This is all that most web pages can be viewed at anyway. It will not change the actual size of the photo unless you change the size...

Sorry Vance, I have x7 if your in an earlier version I don't know when they add "export for" In x7 it's in File, then go down to just under export, says "export to" If your in an older version you should still be able to rescale easy by going to the upper toolbar Click on bitmaps...

Vance
In corel (coreldraw not corel photo paint) you can just export the selected picture. In export, pick "for web" and that usually does a pretty decent job of down sizing images.

Re: etched tempered glass problem...
Vance I was just thinking on a job I had this spring. There I go thinking again. I had reverse etched a business logo on 6 panels and brought them over to install. I had used some of the cloth gloves with the rubber on the palms. These were new, never been used. I proceeded to pick up the panels as ...

Vance I cant seem to zoom in on your picture to get a real close look. If it wasn't reverse etched I would say it was overspray off the edge of the mask but since reverse etched it should not be. I know your a member over at AZ. Maybe post something over there as Jess is a wealth of knowledge regard...

Re: how to lead centers of grinding wheels for glass lathe
Picked up a bunch of lead weights so the quest continues.
I hope to have a few wheels leaded in the next week or so. That will give me a few to start with and get my feet wet.
Thanks for the help and tips.

Re: how to lead centers of grinding wheels for glass lathe
Pat thanks very much for all the info and tips. I kind of thought the punch marks in the stone centers was to tighten them up some but you confirmed it for me. I got the covington in an auction lot and looked like it was used once. I had been looking for a larger lathe but fell into this deal. It wa...

how to lead centers of grinding wheels for glass lathe
I purchases a used Covington glass lathe a year or so ago. I have finally found some grinding wheels so I can start dabbling in cut glass. I want to add a few things to my sandcarving pieces. Mostly basic stuff for now. Problem is all the wheels are for a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 shaft and my machine is a 1&q...
