Re: A little test

Thank Erik, and Bruce, thanks for you answers. I tried with a little oil with my smith gilders tip last time. I think I get too much oil in it so when I pick up the leaf its keep sticking to the hair. Can I wash the hair somehow without destroying anything? And a little answer to your comment #3 - I...

Re: A little test

This is the best close up my camera can take. I think maybe the matte center is too matte? A help for myself next time is to let the black outline dry for a longer and some ... more practice with laying the gold correct! I used 6 sheets of gold for this letter and its only 10x12 cm  When I us...

If someone like to download to their harddrive you can use www.keepvid.com - you can also use it on youtube.

Sometimes its nice to have it on the harddrive so you dont have search for the movie every time.

Re: Glass Signs (Showcase your work here!)

Thanks for your fine answer, I appreciate that.

Next project is to try some glue chipping. I have hide glue, sand for sandblasting (not very fine), I just need to build a chamber to chip inside and some heat lamps inside to set down the humidity.

Re: Glass Signs (Showcase your work here!)

Nice, I like it. I wonder what it would have looked like if you had distressed the piece with a bit of the "antiqued" look with tiny dashes of black on the aluminum leafed around the red border? Sorry my bad english but I don't understand what you mean with 'distressed'.? :) I looked up f...

Re: Glass Signs (Showcase your work here!)

I know this is not a beauty like many other signs here on the board but its my first finished glass sign. The black logo is made with a mask and 1shot paint with no hardener, the aluminum leaf is applied with water size, and everything backed up with black acrylic paint and last one coat of yatch va...

If i was living in USA, I would be there in a minute.

There arent any sign painters in Denmark left. The trade is under a new name now and its all about foil and print, no gold, no paint, no handcraft, all computer :(

Remove mirroring?

Is it possible to take a mirror and remove some of the 'mirror' without sandblasting it so its just pure clean glass again? A chemical process or something?

I ask because I have a mirror were I want to remove some some of the effect for letters in gold?

Hope you understand my english :)

Re: Glass paint

Yeah experimentation is the way forward. I found some oil based black for both metal and wood work. Its works okay but the next I would try is, boiled linseed oil paint, and finally there is something thats easy to get here in Denmark. A long drying time is okay this far. But when im getting better ...

Re: Glass paint

Now I have done my first "glas sign" with some errors I can learn of. The size I guess was to strong, maybe too much gelatine. I used 1x1cm gelatine (for cooking) for 0,25 litre water. It was really difficult to remove the leaf around the numbers. For the matte finish inside the numbers I ...
