Re: Monte Jumper
Jumper Update 7/29/09 Greetins my friends, I visted Monte an Pat last week to offer my assistance. Pat is taking Monte to work daily but he's still not able to withstand much stress. His eyes are bright and is in a good mood but has difficulty with speach. They're working on his ability to walk but ...

Dan, I really like my newly build sandblast booth. We assembled it about a month ago and can't imagine having to go to outside to do the job. Here in Oklahoma it's just pure misery in the summer and winter. I'd try to gang the work but it allways seemed there was a stragler which needed to be done. ...

Blast Cabinet Design
Felix, Just another hint or two. It's surprising how large a vacuum it takes to remove sand dust in the cabinet. On my booth we have a duel air 7hp vac and it has a hard time keeping up. I think this is due to the amount of air going through the blast pot. We are useing plexiglass for the viewing. I...

Mike, I agree with Sara, your pix are top notch. Sara gave me some good advice with the purchase of my D70. Buy it from a dealer you know and get an extended warranty. That's good for me because I still have a half dozen Leica's, two Blads, along with a dozen other camera's. Ya see, I just keep my s...

Mke, How nice to see that roll-up pouch of Steven P. I wish I'd taken the opportunity to know him better and look over all those sign materials he left behind. He had a generious, well organized, set of boxes and pouches for all his unique tools that he packed in his old green station wagon. Every t...

It took about a year of hand wringing, and confusion. I looked at dozens of sign web sites which only added to the anxiety. Finally, I called Mark Fair and asked for his assistance with a web design and concept. A couple of days later he had the basic concept finished. Within a week I was up and run...

Brass ID Signs
Hellow Friends.
I'm ready to place another oreder for the brass Company Name which we attach to the bottom of our carved signs. We've used US Brass (www.usbrassshop.com) in the past but would like to see if we can get a product that looks a little more rich.
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Joe

Un-Waxed Cups
Billy Bob,
Good news that these cups are still available. I'll continue looking. So far they haven't shown up on at the grocery store or Hobby Lobby.
At my advanced age, a case would do it.

Folded Paper Cup Pattern
Greetings friends. Over the years I have seen some of you folding paint cups from card stock or some kind of folder material. Could one of you please show me a pattern or details how to go about it. I've run out of my favorite Smurf Cups and they don't make them any more. Haven't found a wax free su...

Hello Everyone, I'm probably behind the curve on this product but here goes. Are there artists on this forum who've used SculptNoveau surface materials? Sure could use some sage advice. One of the products lines they offer is a water based patina that can be sprayed, rolled or brushed on most surfac...

I think all you guys are correct. There's probably good money in vehicle lettering. Some folks even make a living doing just that. For me, it's not very good. I love jobs that takes time. Lots of it. The kind of work where I can move through the project, solving problems as they arrive. Each morning...

Sandblast Booth
Howdy Folks, I'm hoping someone has made a large, big, huge, Sand Blast booth and will allow me to steal some of their idea's. Back in the 80's Mike had a dedicated sandblast room, which was handy because he wasn't held up by bad weather. Still, this requires suiting up, getting cool fresh safe air ...

Raymond, Thank you for posting your experience using oil based primer with a top coat of latex. The only way I have found of trapping tannan bleed through is with an Alkyd, oilbased primer or alchohol type such as Kils. Either way, Sherwin Williams recommends oil based primer for their latex paints....

Robare, I think you are on the right track about not using latex primers on Extira. Dale Kerr and I were discussing this top a few days ago, after several of his custom signs had paint lifting while putting on vinyl. He to was using Extira's recomended water based primer. His suspicion was the Extir...

Dan, Acorn Graphics called me yesterday concerning the same problem with Extira. They were using a latex primer. Tom, the Extira rep. with whom I spoke, did suggest a sealer, but wasn't sure what. I will post the contact name and number this evening for their technical department. Give them a call. j

Extira Problems
Today we were finishing up on a couple of large Extira panel signs that were shaped, routed, & V Carved. They both failed. Terry, my assistant had primed those panels with Ronan block-out and didn't seal them first with Epoxy, or shellac which turned out to be a real mistake. I was finishing up ...

R. I like the process you use with a wash made from Epoxy. Not sure about your mixture, but I know it will work. The use of shellac is a tried and proven base sealer. primer. It's the base for Kils. We've used it for years. Extira has very little resistance against warping. I would caution: This mat...
