Thanks for your response, Larry. No, I didn't flow the glue all over the sign, only on the areas to be chipped. (I can see this would have made the process much easier). I mixed the glue 1 part glue to 1.5 parts distilled water. Cut it around 6 hours later. I let it sit at room temperature for about...

Chipping job in the making (photo attached)

Hi everyone. Let me give you a brief on what this sign will (hopefully) look like. I'm chipping the whole thing, & afterwards I'm going to reblast the background, to give it a frosted texture. I'm going to angel gild the letters & the 2 rings. The glass will then be installed with stand offs...

Thanks for your comments guys! I agree with you about the "Ladies" sign. I seemed like a good idea at the time. See what I wast thinking with that was- You know when in nice restaurants you may see nice glass door before going through the "real" restroom door? That was it. But an...

Thanks John & Mike.

Mike, yes, I wanted to know if this was doable. & no, I can't wait for the ink since I gotta finish this stuff for a show next week. I guess it'll have to go without a shadow :(

John, thanks again. I was trying to do a piece like the conclave 10 on your wall.

Smith's cream to create shadow?

Hi everyone. I'd like to screenprint some shadows on a piece of glass, but I don't have any clear screen ink. Can I tint some smith's cream & screen print it?

Thanks,
Felix

What are you trying to achieve? I'm trying to achieve a gilded chipped letter with a mirror outline. The centers (chipped areas) have a slight tint (fibroseal with a drop or 2 of prussian blue) Do you want the gold on all areas of the glass or just in the chipped areas? No, only on the chipped area...

gold wipes right off glass

Good morning everyone. I chipped some glass. Sprayed a little tinted fibroseal with a preval into the chipped area. Gilded & burnished. When I size for my second gild, the gold wipes right off except in the chipped area. What could have happened?

Thanks, Felix

Removing gold from unwanted areas

Hi everyone. Could someone tell me what's the best way to remove the gold that sticks to unwanted areas on HDU? We're using a toothbrush but I'm sure there's a better way. (I hope!)

angel gilding on fibroseal & other gold Q's

Good morning everyone. Well we finally got the glass chipped & are ready to angel gild, but I got a few questions... Questions? Me? No! :) Can I paint fibroseal on a portion of the glass prior to angel gilding, in order to achieve a matte gild on that particular area? Also, how do I angel gild a...

Hi everyone. Is there a difference between transparent & opalescent smalts? Meaning will the sign look different if I use one or the other?

Thanks,

blaster / chipping box update

Hi everyone. Well, except for the funnel & brushes, the box is built. I turned on the lights & fan for about half an hour & the temp went up to 100F & humidity down to 40. Are we on track yet or does it have to be hotter (or dryer)?

Thanks!!!!

I had a great time. Tonia liked it too. I really enjoy small meets. You learn so much more. I'd like do it again in Boise & learn the stuff we didn't have time for. AND if anyone is going to the meet in Valencia take an extra day (& a big memory card) to take photos at Main Street Disneyland...

lighting gold signs (at shows)

Hi again eveyone. I just got a call from the marina about the upcoming boat show. (I really gotta hustle & make some samples!) Anyway, how should I light my glass pieces at the show? Should I light them at all?

Thanks, Felix

Hi again. I read this stuff is for touch ups. Will it be as good as resizing & gilding? Also, if it is good, is it for glass, surface or gold?
