Locomotive Painting

Thanks for your prompt reply. What I am looking for is an industrial quality paint like Matthews and Grip Guard or some other brand that can be rolled and brushed out. As for a skilled enough person to do it, my helper is expert at laying varnish and paint on antique wood boats, some very large. Act...

Locomotive Painting

I have something new that I have never done. I will be repainting two locomotives not the entire machine but about a 4 foot stripe, side, front and entire cab. Two colors then lettered, colors are solid color not metallics. We can not spray paint easily because of the open repair shed. Looking to pr...

Paint Coverage

Thank you Kent for such a thorough explanation. I think I might look into getting some pigment. There was a company ( Kramer? a german company) that I once purchased some raw materials from. Will do a search later.

Thanks again,
John

Quality of lettering enamels?

It is time for me to restock my lettering enamels for the coming season. I am not happy with the covering properties of 1Shot. This used to be good now it seems I have to double coat red especially(suggest renaming 2Shot). I have not used chromatic or ronan in a long time. Any suggestions welcomed. ...

Sign Ordinances - Good Examples wanted.

Our little community is writing (with the help of a professional) new zoning laws. I have managed to get on the planning commission so I will have a real voice. My question is for some examples of some other ordinances that can be recommended. I've been in this business a long time and have had to d...

Photo Resist for glass etch

I am doing some glass etching and would like to know more about photo resist process (for complex designs and smaller than a cut mask). Someone here knows all about it and has made the mistakes already.
Any info is helpfull.

Love my D70

We bought ours around Christmas. This camera is great and our old lenses work with varying degrees of automation. But you can use a compleley manual lense if you like.

Something I want to do is get a tiff file but have not learned how yet.

We use macs around here.

Thanks for the response. We are refinishing the sign in the shop and will put 3 coats of clear over the dutch gold. And thanks for reminding me of the wonders of shellac.
Thanks
John

Rick Glawson wrote a treatice on shellac, I need to reread that.

Composite Leaf?

We made an outdoor sign a few years back (5) that I am refinishing. It is carved HDU letters on MDO cut profile of the script lettering. Large, the letters are about 24" tall. We originally used Dutch Gold and clear coated them. We used 1Shot Clear to protect the finish from tarnish and it work...

Looks great.

Whats behind the chipped field? Price, mmmmmm? Need to be outdoors? Looks like $1500 off the top of my hooded parka. I'll figure it out and see how close that is. Design 4hr and 1 visit to client and site. 27x36 mahogany frame: Go see my boat buddies to get some mahogany, stand around and talk about...

Mike, I think I remember you purchased your camera about the first of the year and I received mine about a month before that. I highly recommend the camera and am very pleased with just one exception and that is the file format. I want a tiff format and so far have not been able to get there. Admitt...

Transfer Ornaments

I have a few sheets of gelatin decals that I bought from Rick G around 1988. At his suggestion I used them for reference while decorating antique safes. The sheets have rubber stamped dates on the back, before or after the turn of the last century. Some designs are corners and ovals with cameos and ...

Great Job with the Old Posts!

Thank you all for your hard work posting the old forum messages. It was the cause of my being late again this morning, because of reading so many of the messages. And once again inspired to get out and do what needs to be done.

Well done,
John

I just bought the D70

Great camera so far. I havn't found a single problem with it. Of the many positives is the fact that it looks like my old Nikon and the lenses will fit with varing degrees of auto functions. But the lenses that came with it are great so far. I purchased mine from RoyalCamera.com in Brooklyn NY. Tamr...

I'm finding that I need to use Photoshop more and more. I know I need to take Butlers Course and all would be solved. But, I need to know some things in the meantime. 1. How do you make a simple outline? 2. How do you arc type? 3. Surround Shades, etc. Just basic stuff. I have been looking for some ...
