Re: Backup paint question

Thanks Pat, that was the post I had read. The varnish bit was more for lettering that may be exposed to window washers and such. Thanks for the reply.

Backup paint question

Hello all, I have a few questions regarding back-up paint and varnish. I don't do a lot of glass gilding, but am getting more calls for it, starting with a job next week. I still have some Dekor black and yellow ochre left, but it's getting pretty low. Just wondering what some of you are using for b...

Re: Code of Ethics

No need for an apology Rodrick, you were only responding to a clients request. The funny thing about that job is I received a call from their designer, just wanting to say how much they appreciated my work, the same day I was notified by a friend that they had posted here, that they where looking fo...

You are correct, I did those a few years ago. They are a great group to work with. To bad it's state side, it's one of my favorite type of signs to do.

Re: Another Sign Movie

Glad your enjoying my blog Dan, and also Doug (mentioned my blog in another post). I just finished a post you may find of interest. I also enjoy seeing videos of people doing signs. Sean has taken the time to start posting them on his site, saves searching for them. It's nice to see more in-depth ty...

Hi All, The fellow doing the video is Sean Starr, and he started a site called "Traditional Sign Maker Magazine". You can check it out at: http://traditionalsignmaker.com/. Mike, it's funny you mentioned watching "Open Range" I just caught it the other day on cable. I guess I enj...

Re: Sign Painting / lettering without fumes?

Hi Cheryl, I second what Danny said. I've been using Benjamin Moore for years. I use both Aura and the Collections line. Both work well. You will have some coverage issues with certain colors, such as the Reds and yellows, but it's also a problem with One Shots and other paints. The nice thing with ...

The Aultman Taylor decal project

A while back, I was commissioned to re-create an historic decal that was used on farm equipment back at the turn of the century. There was very little information to go from, so it was a mix of using what little reference I had, and a little guess work. I was inspired to finish the artwork off using...

Re: Sign supplier in Denver

Hi Mike, thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed my site. The shine you see is from the finish on the wood surface. I used a polyurethane wipe-on varnish (6 coats in total). It produces a very smooth reflective surface. I like to use the wipe-on because you can get that french polished look, plus y...

Re: Sign supplier in Denver

Not a problem Mark. I use a good quality latex house paint ( Benjamin Moore-Aura ). It works well, both for inside and outside work. I find the mid to top of the line paint works and covers best, although most of the time, the signs I paint on brick are design to look weathered and distressed. Thank...

Actually Pat, they're for an old fashioned Barber Shop, Straight Razor shaves and such. I also painted their logo on a brick wall that they had installed in the shop.

Sign supplier in Denver

Good morning all. Just wondering if anyone knows of a sign supplier in the Denver area that carries brushes and sign paint, preferably Ronan. Also, here's some pictures of a pair of Gold Leaf signs I recently finished, all hand painted. Any help with a supplier would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ...

I also enjoyed the pictures Mike posted on past letterhead meets. Most of you spend your time making stunning sig...

Hi Ron, Ken ran two workshops, one in Jan/07 and Feb. 07. The folks that helped organize the classes were Ryan & Linda Devries. The classes were advertised on ebay, so there wasn't a lot of response. I mentioned the next time they should advertise on some of the sign sites. I was 1 of two sign p...
