Doors of opportunity

We offer a wide variety of services in our shop so we can fulfill the need for 3 dimensional signs. A sign to us is anything that brings attention to our customer's products or services. We believe that our own displays and signs systems should be a shining example of what we do. Between paying proj...

Firemen's bell

Occasionally we are asked to do unusual projects in our shop. It makes the job very interesting. Our city firemen have a ceremony each year in which they ring a bell to honor deceased firemen. They had a bell but needed a permanent stand. They asked me to CNC the pieces they needed to create one and...

It looks like you are keeping out of trouble in fine style... Nice work Danny!

Home show report

Two days down... one to go. The home show has been a wonderful opportunuty to put our work in front of thousands and thousands of people. True to form (as always) we are marketing to one in a thousand. But with many thousands walking by each day we are reaching hundreds of interested people who are ...

Ready to go!

We set up the booth when the doors opened first thing this morning, seeking to beat the rush of those setting up. It was also our plan to have our display ready to see by all the businesses who will be setting up during today and tomorrow morning. Being organized and ready early can hopefully make a...

Home show update

We decided to go for the local trade show and have spent a couple days putting together our display for the show. We wanted our new logo to be the centerpiece of the display to build brand recognition locally... so a new sign was required. I had routed a second ship's hull a bit smaller than our mai...

Home show marketing?

As our business is changing from one solely doing large scale theme park type projects to more of a 'dimensional sign shop' taking on all sorts of interesting things - we are looking at ways to market our company, especially locally. The current economic conditions have dried up the big jobs in the ...

One Month to Sign Magic Workshop VI

Its just one short month now until Sign Magic Workshop VI starts. As we are busy getting ready for this event I am reminded of all the great people we have hosted in the past workshops. And those memories bring lots of smiles to my face! There's been plenty of learning on both sides of the podium he...

Cart before the horse :P

Trying to tell someone about the type of work we do is almost impossble without showing them first. The hardest question I answer is 'What do I do for a living?' :) But if someone comes to our workshop or visits our website the answer is before their very eyes. They can instantly see that we do just...

Erik Once you attend our workshop in February you will understand why I would never own a sandblast unit ever again for doing dimensional signs. If I were to do glass I might buy a small blast unit for doing just that but nothing more. We don't do wood signs on account of their short life in the ele...

February is coming FAST!

We were proud to welcome Erik to the list of those who will be coming to Yarrow in February. The workshop is a little over half full already! We have already routed the 3D name plaques for those who have booked and Rebecca is making them look pretty snazzy in the paint department. While we are slow ...

2009 Sign Magic Workshop dates set

Since we deal with so much more than just CNC routing in our workshops we have renamed them for next year. The popular workshops are now called Sign Magic Workshops. The workshops deal with a wide vqariety of subjects including inspiration, 3 dimensional designing, drawing, presentation, building pr...

Router Magic V report

Our fifth Router Magic Workshop is now history in Yarrow... What a workshop!! As much as we plan and prepare, ultimately its the folks who attend who determine the success and content of the event. We had a wonderful group from diverse locations - Raymond Chapman from Texas, Gary Anderson from India...

glaze formula... top secret!!!!!!!!!! :)

With modern formulations of paint who knows what's in them these days! I don't like mixing different brand paints and products. We used to simply water down our acrylic paints to get stains, but longevity wasn't always the result... and they tended to be real runny and hard to control when applying....

:) They only look complicated. I knew I was stepping into deep water when I did the first piece for this workshop. For once you set a standard its impossible to go back. Especially if you want every attendee to get the same treatment and take home the same level of piece. My goal is to design pieces...

Getting carried away (as usual)

I like so many other artists love my work. Sometimes (often) I get carried away on projects - especially when they aren't being done for money. Its a chance to be outrageously creative and I simply can't resist. For our Router Magic Workshops I like to do a name plate for each attendee. Its a chance...

We are busy here doing all the last minute things that have to be done before each workshop. It will be a small group this time around compared to the three previous workshops but that will allow for a more personalized approach which isn't a bad thing at all. This is the first workshop we've hosted...

Next Router Magic Workshop planned for July18-20

The next Router Magic Workshop is scheduled fo July 18-20. We'll be exploring the ins and outs of 3D and textured routing as always. Over the three days of the workshop we'll show how we build 3D files. We'll also give hands-on training in the shop showing what to do with the pieces once they come o...

CNC Routing

I considered outsourcing my routing for about three seconds before I decided it would be better to simply own my own router. And I'm glad I did. Back when I looked at routers there weren't many folks doing 3D work with them. Its a fact most folks use their machines as a jigsaw. Its still that way fo...

As anybody who knows and loves Raymond and has talked with him at length on the phone can attest, he loves to talk - using lots of words too... my long distance phone bill proves it. This website has many people on it who simply love the old way of doing things. They work tirelessly, rediscovering lost methods and techniques, and enjoy the task of doing things that way... because it is the tried and true method. These folks share a passion for a craft which can take a lifetime t...
