Re: The whitest of them all

Is that micro prizm flake? If so I would believe you would have to thin the mix pretty much and spray it on with an airbrush in thin layers.. or mix the flake with a some sort of clear, spray it on and add the white after.. but just guessing.

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Thanks a lot! I´ll ask around for that ink and see if I can find anything local :-) Always easier, but in the mean time, I think I´m going to place another order from http://letterheadsignsupply.com.. how is the consistency of the back up black.. I guess it will get thicker the more the can is open,...

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Hehe yea, it some times feels like we live in a little isolated island which god forgot.. :-) The more I learn, the more I see I need/would like to try out, so in the beginning I´m a little impatient, but as I do with my leather craft stuff, I usually wait and have bigger orders when I first do orde...

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Erik, as you have probably noticed I´m pretty new here and a novice, so I try to catch as many tips I can by searching around the forum. But honestly I can´t remember them all, but the one from the fast gold size thread, I noticed it was several that mentioned the Ron Parcell´s Gilders size beside y...

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Thanks a lot Ken! :) You are right, my size was way too thick, I understand that now when I have experienced a bit more too.. at first I thought it was strange that so little gelatine could make it stick, but I see now. It looks like I have to order LHSS backing black as well, but I have to look tro...

Wow, that´s absolutely stunning! Would love to visit a store like that some day, just watching a master at work.. but I would not be able to keep my mouth shut and probably distract you :-)

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Thanks a lot for the feedback! :-) Yea, everything in Norway is super expensive, so with the US currency differences, eBay and US suppliers are my good friends.. but the problem is, I get a lot of requests for my motorcycle leather seats from US and many other places in the world, but for most they ...

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Thanks a lot Dan! I used a piece of cotton to wipe it off, but I didn´t think off wipe in the direction of the seams and cracks.. more like cirlces, very carefully, but I´ll try that next time. Holding it up to the light, it defiantly needed a second gild. A final wash with warm size I will also try...

Re: 276ccm: My work and progress..

Painted the backside with one shot silver.. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8370/8374774496_6ce756c6d0_c.jpg Wiped off the leftover silver a bit early as I was a little impatient.. then outlined it.. (the stroke shadows, is just for taking away the focus on the faults) :-) There are two good things ab...

276ccm: My work and progress..

Starting my own thread where I can post my updates and stuff I´m working at, so I can more easily see my own progress (hopefully) and if getting replies with tips and tricks I can more easily go back and check.. hope that´s ok.. As I said in my "introduction" post, I´m from Norway, 41 in a...

Re: Fast Gold Size

Store says: "SHIPS UPS GROUND ONLY!" Hmm.. they are the only ones that sells Ron Percell´s fast size?

I have this US address shipping company I can use, but they only ships it to Norway if they get the MSDS charts of what the size contains..

Re: Hi from Norway..

Thanks again guys for a great and very informative forum.. doing a little searching and getting lost in all the great information, but I have gotten some really great tips.. Re: Hi from Norway..

Thanks a lot Dan! I´ll try to mix some gelatine and do a little testing today :-) Yea, the gilded leather is very cool! In Norway it´s a tradition to use gilded leather on some kinds of chairs.. and we have fixed quite a few of those at the upholstery shop. I´m also experimenting a little with gilde...

Re: Hi from Norway..

Hi and thanks for the welcome! :-) Anthony, the leather work is hand tooled.. very quick explanation: First I draw the motive on paper before I transfer it to some sort of "grey paper" in plastic. Then I moist the leather and put the plastic paper over the leather, and then going over the ...

Re: Fast Gold Size

This was very interesting.. I have been using a can of One Shot gold size for a very long time, and it has been good to me, but recently I had to buy another one, and I was thinking there must have been something wrong with it, until I read this, as it got that thick skin and become very thick very ...

Re: Hi from Norway..

While at it, I have a few question :-) I have found a few recipes of gelatine size.. to get that shiny look, will it work with those metal "gold imitation" leafs as well, or is it only the real deal that makes it so shiny.. I have both real 24k gold leaf and some different "fake"...
