Hi Dave- the art of brilliant cut work is just amazing to me...holding a large piece of glass, or even small one for that matter, over a spinning stone... grinding intricate shapes at different angles to a uniform depth without going thru the glass...................it is just simply amazing to how ...

how would you remove a ghost......
........imagine. Got a call from my friend Bill Blumberg today. He painted some nice graphics with One Shot on the interior of two large windows several years ago. Some time after that, the owner had the windows tinted on the inside because of too much sunlight (south side of bldg.) She recently mov...

I used a recently purchased can of Rolco size,........... never used that brand before (the first can I ever bought some 30 years ago was Rolco, and I still have it)......Lee Littlewood uses it all the time. When I sprayed it (straight), it tacked real quick (30 minutes) and didn't stay open too lon...

Hey Doug, thanks for asking. The project went well. Sprayed Rolco quick size, chopped up metal leaves in coffee grinder (just a quick hit on the button...thanks for that tip Danny), placed all the different karat pieces in a cigar box, mixed/fluffed them up, and kinda scattered with a wide brush ove...

pricing...........
I'm with you Dan, I also appreciate seeing what others charge. When discussing how I figure pricing with friends and other signartist, I explain that I just pick a few numbers and then see what makes me feel good. Althought I think about how long it might take to complete the task, I never price by ...

Thanks Kent for the informatio...

normally something I would never do, but this carved bird is going to be handled by a few hands before it get to its final perch atop the exterior totem pole in Lake Tahoe. And I have also used multiple karats of leaf so it really needs to be cleard to prevent tarnishing. The automotive paint store ...

questions about size and skewings...........
I have two questions……….when I applied my size for the Mica base on my carved bird, I waited a little too long for tack time and didn’t get complete coverage. Should I wait 24hrs to spray a second application of Rolco quick size (Sepp says the cure time to clearcoat is 24hrs) or can I apply after 12...

Hey Rod, I do these all the time for a local awning shop........just what John said, but without the shellac spray. That would not only prime the material but also seal the mask edge and prevent bleeds under the mask. Thanks for the idea John, I'll try that. I also spray the back of the mask with 3M...

thanks Joe for taking the time to do the samples, but my concern with anything that has body to it is that it is going to coverup the beautiful detail (texture) of the carving. Imagine putting that stuff all over the wonderful eagle you recently carved....it would be a shame! I don't think these arc...

Gilded bird.....a new twist
hahaahaaa.... as I'm about to start my gilding project on the carved bird, the architect now want the gilded bird to have the feeling of a Jackson Pollock painting...........what did he just say? That's right, an abstract drip painting rendered with gold leaf. The first test sample will be with torn...

the cabinet shop that's the bird is giving it two thin coats of an epoxy sealer....then I will prime/paint/size/23k gild. I was told today that the architects in SF want it to look a bit aged /patinaed, rather than brand new shinny. My thought is after gilding, to spray or brush a thinned asphaltum ...
