Re: Backing of a reverse glass sign question
Welcome Olivier, I would coat anything out with enough layiers of the same color to try and be solid. Dark colors 2 to 3 and light colors 3 to 4. Once I have them solid enough , in the case of your nice sign with the red background I would just keep coating it with red. If you want the back of the s...

I received my Calcium Gluconate cream and eye wash. Shopped around and found Tychem coveralls and proper gloves at Grainger. Spoke with Ron at Delamo chemicals today about nuterizing the HF solution. Having a bucket of water and soda ash mixed up and ready will take care of that. Getting ready on Tu...

Hi Ron, No they don't. I use Locktight on everything. Plus the bolt is long enough that it bottoms out before it get to tight on the sign so I really crank down on them. The system has been in service for 5 years and it's still working great. Some of the backgrounds have been changed out three times...

Hi Rick, Thanks for the response. You are so right about not stressing over it. I look at clients these days and just think how grateful I am to be able to do my craft for them as many time as I can. If it's once that's great. If it's over and over even better. We know you can't control that. Having ...

One of the first things I remember learning for my dad about being in the sign business was to respect other sign artists and the relationship they have with their clients. Re: Covering a whole window with 1Shot
Lorenzo,
If you have Frazee paint available they make a line called AeroPlate enamel. Just make sure you add a hot thinner to it to add in drying. I would also use a roller and tape off the window around the outside as a stopping point so you don't have to go right up to the edges.

Re: Advice
Hi Lee,
Unless your planing on doing a "Rustic" looking sign and want the background paint to crackle I don't think you will be able to clean the wax off of the wood enough to get the paint to bond. I would suggest having a new piece of ply cut and start fresh.

Hi Lorenzo,
In the past I have done the same thing with success. I would concider finding some industrial enamel paint that will be compatible with one shot because it may be less expensive.
Good luck

Re: Sign Painter Movie
The Sign Painter Movie is coming to San Diego ! There was a time, as recently as the 1980s, when storefronts, murals, banners, barn signs, billboards, and even street signs were all hand-lettered with brush and paint. But, like many skilled trades, the sign industry has been overrun by the techno-fu...

I thought I'd start a post dealing with issues regarding mirroring glass. I recently had the pleasure of having Dave Smith come to my studio to give me a lesson in mixing the chemicals for pouring silver mirroring. It was a great time and a big help .Unfortunaly to short of a time though. In my expe...
