Alan
I use Rolco quick size. I find 1shot quick size to be only useful for smaller job situations.

Re: Paint mask for Gilding Jobs
Dave I forgot to mention that I always thin the paint when working in this manner, just as Patrick mentioned. The trick is to remove the mask when the paint is wet. If you wait until the paint is dry you will be stuck with a hard raised edge even if you thin the paint. Pull the mask away perpendicul...

Re: Paint mask for Gilding Jobs
Hi Dave The name of the vinyl mask I use is PASK. Great for indoor and outdoor applications. use with a plotter or hand cut, clean lines, low tack, graphics and lettering without residue. Available in white or yellow. It comes in 15"(punched only), 24", 30"(punched or unpunched) &...

Yea man, talk about a rush! All those artists were in a different world. Like all of us true artists!!! They all were encouraged big time by Arnsberg and Stieglits to paint full time and develop thier art to thier full potental. They did nothing else. They were championed financially by Arnsberg and...

Re: Alexander Calder
Rod thanks for sharing.......your a man of true taste! Truely amazing. Calder was a real heavy. He was part of the 'american modernist' movement from 1910 to 1935. There were 2 circles of artists, the arnsberg circle(spelling?) out of Philadelphia, and the Stieglitz circle(spelling?) out of NYC. Sti...

Re: Question about clears over acrylics?
Joe I don't know if this will help but I do a lot of airbrushing on bike tanks etc. in body shops. Sometimes I'll shoot artist acrylic paint (liquitex)...........The body shop then clearcoats the job with automotive urethane clear. It will not attack the artwork and holds up big time. If need be you...

Thanks David I appreciate that!
I outlined and painted over (on top of) the black with regular quick size (straight out of the can) in the same manner you would paint in a matte center.

Thanks Jerry
I always try to give it my all.
I forgot to mention that I also used an exacto to remove black paint in areas where it was too tight to get detail with a brush.

Jerry Insane logo huh? (challenge!) The logo was supplied to me via small file size JPEG There was no vector art to make a mask. (logo artist disapeared???) 1- opened the logo JPEG in photoshop & reversed the art & played with the black until it was somewhat solid. 2- made a digital print on...

What varnish would you recommend?
Referring to the post on the blue leaf oriental lettering I noticed that you mentioned 1 shot quick size w/hardener as an overall final coat. Will that do the trick? Or should I stick with the window spar.
thanks again

Re: Glass Gilding Final Clearcoat
Thanks John, I really appreciate the feedback! Seems like that clears up some issues if your jobs are still holding up after 10 years without clear. I always put hardener in my backup paint but wasn't sure if that was going to be durable enough on its own. I comunicate in detail with the shop owners...

Re: Glass Gilding Final Clearcoat
Thanks Vance, I'll give the shellac a try. I clear my jobs (the Store entrance doors)to give a extra coat of protection against window washing chemicals. Plus the jobs look more neat/clean and finished from the inside at close distance with an even finish.

Glass Gilding Final Clearcoat
Hi everyone I'm sure that you've heard this question before, and I don't mean to bore you but what would you guys recommend for the final protective clearcoat for a glass gilding job. Lately I've been using 'gilders window spar' from letterhead sign. But it seems to want to attack the 'gilders backu...
