Re: Lynda.com recommendation
Just to fill in a few more details, Lynda.com costs $25 per month and it is cheaper if you pay for a full year at a time. For that price, you can view any of their tutorials on any title from any Internet connected computer 24 hours a day. You don't just sign up for Photoshop or Illustrator. It is a...

Re: More Chrome Car Emblems
Hi Erik, I was pretty tired last night and had to quit before I had them all on the page, so I finished it this morning by adding another row. Maybe someday, I'll add another row, but for now, it is pretty complete. I like most of them, but I think the Cutlass emblem has a lot of spunk. Same for the...

More Chrome Car Emblems
A year or so ago, I had an article in SignCraft showing a bunch of chrome car emblems from the classic cars of days gone by. SignCraft included quite a few of them, but tonight I added a page on my site with a bunch more. I have more to add, but my eyes are getting tired! Here's the page on my site:...

Need a new stop sign?
Hi all,
This video has been around a long time, but it cracks me up each time I watch it.

I am in the process of doing a logo for someone with a committee in the background and the video kept running through my mind.
Enjoy,
Mike Jackson

Hi Aaron, Looks like you managed to get logged in. Welcome aboard. It is difficult to explain exactly how much thinner you need at any particular time, but once you letter for a while, you just know! Paint can feel gummy if too thick, which is okay on a rough brick wall, but in a gray quill, you nee...

Content aware spot healing and filling with content aware was a HUGE improvement in version 5 over version 4. It was worth the upgrade price all by itself. Re: Transparent Glaze - How to question?
Bill, I might sound like a broken record here, but I would NEVER try something like this on an actual piece until I tried it a few dozen times on some scrap glass. You might want to try ALL of the suggestions given on this thread on a bunch of cheap glass. If you have to ask the question (which we w...

Re: Silver Dollar City Designs in SignCraft
Bill, That was actually pretty easy as long as you make sure the shade is on a separate layer. 1. Turn on preserve transparency on the shade layer. That keeps the background from getting sprayed 2. Fill the shade with red. 3. Since the shade was created at 45 degrees, I could make airbrush strokes a...

Erik and all, When you go to the SC site, there is a section called Archive Articles. Put in some high quality coated paper and you should g...

Re: Advice and tips needed for new Cutting and Design software.
Hi again, I was mostly referring to the popular DTP programs when I said I didn't think any of them could open or import Gerber PLT files, as that is the direction Erik was headed at the time. If the other dedicated sign making programs can import or open them, the end result is essentially going fr...

Hi All, These are cases of explaining features that some people might overlook or not totally understand. Disclaimer: I don't know it all! People do signs differently and have different work flows. But, if we ared oing a set of boat letters that need to be 3" tall, we simply enter 3" tall ...

Re: Advice and tips needed for new Cutting and Design software.
Erik, I don't think you will find ANY software package that will open Gerber PLT files. I could be wrong. But you can do a batch conversion of PLT files to AI or EPS. I have say, however, that I find Omega is FAR SUPERIOR to Illustrator for basic sign layout. 1inchtallExample.jpg Here's an example. ...

Out of curiosity, I checked on adding another plotter. the Summa plotter you talked about is in the list. It'd be easy to drive it from Omega.

Erik, Have you checked to see if Omega can drive the Summa plotter directly? I believe they include lots of drivers for lots of brands of machines. I have Omega 4 (soon Omega 5) running an Edge and an older HS15 plus plotter on a Windows 7, 64 bit system. The plotter was an old serial version, but i...

Douglas, The old Spence, Moriarty, Shuster sign was a little different. I suspect we overworked that one based purely on the budget. Gerry was open to me dolling it up, so I did. The sign was for a high profile client and on one of the most traveled streets of JH. Quite a few times each week, we'd d...

Ismael,
I think we turned off the option to embed videos here, but you can easily copy the URL from YouTube and add the link in a post.
Here's an example of one I posted a year or so ago:

Doug, Back when were traveling around (before we moved here), we ran into Jim Pritchard in New Hampshire. He is a great talent, but I don't think he has been doing many signs anymore. Anyway, on the side of his truck, he had the words "Plain and Fancy". Most of his signs were fancy—at leas...

Erik and Robare, Thanks for posting the info. From what I understand, both of you are correct if we were playing on a level field. The wrench in the system is Google themselves. Signatures not showing up?
Hi all, It seems a few people's signatures are not showing up for some reason. I checked Larry White's signature in and Admin Panel and it looks like he has it set up correctly, but right now it only shows a single period under his posts. Mine is working as far as I can tell. Right now, I don't have...

Hi Doug, Signcraft is going to put the article on line so everyone can see it even if they don't take the magazine. They are also going to include a bunch more of the images that couldn't fit in the magazine. I just checked and it isn't there yet, but I'll let people know when it's online. I did the...
