Re: 1906 Rawson & Evans sign on shorpy
Nice Find Pat! It also may have been a Western Sand Blast Sign. Can you read the makers name at the bottom of the sign? It looks kinda like one in the Western Sand Blast Catalog...but it also looks like an R&E Sign. From the W.S.B. Catalog, The Page Title says... "Double-Sided Jewel Electri...

Re: What are friends for ?
I fourth it! Me and another sign shop here in town used to play that game. Every time I would go for a visit, he would say how I lost another bid because I was too high...(the bid, not me). He got the jobs and I didn't...that's OK though, cause I did not do the type of work he did. He eventually wen...

Re: Vertical and/or horizontal for glue chip process
Did they skip a step? Aren't you suppose to let the glue dry first, before you put it in the "low humidity" room. Or is the "low humidity" room really the "drying" room....where's the heated chipping room? Or the florescent light box? And I would never run my bare hands...

Re: Glue chip glass problem
Has the Stained Glass Shop that blasted your piece, ever chipped glass on their own before? Or do they just do the Frosted Glass Blasting Only? I was thinking that there might be some excess oil in their air lines. Or...blasting with a grit finer than 220 does not give enough "tooth" for t...

Re: Glue chip glass problem
Have you Chipped Glass Before? Sorry, had to ask. If so, did you do anything different with this project/process? Is the glass tempered? What was the grit size of the silicon carbide? What is the strength of your glue? Got any pictures of the dried glue on and off the glass, that you can post here? ...

Re: Do you know "steampunk"?
The following is another website statement on the subject of steampunk. Steampunk Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th c...

And for silvering plastic and rubber, try wetting agent C-22, Scroll up the page a bit and you will see it.

Re: Letters on stone
Lars, You might want to switch from talcum powder (which is white) to charcoal powder (which is black). You also might want to take some 120 or 180 light grit sand paper and sand the back of the pattern to open up the pounce holes. Doing that will allow more pounce powder to get through the holes. RMN

Re: Gilding on Sand Blasted Foam
When one learns about priming and painting, one also learns about the variables in materials and drying times, not just by reading the labels, but also through experience. The more you do, the more you know. And it sounds like you know what you are doing. As you and I know, and as Kent has stated, t...

Joe, it seems with each post you make, you give more details into your situation. From what I have read so far, you have a drying issue, and you read the labels on the can. And....you stack your boards to dry. Which may be one of the problems. Stacking boards delays the drying....not enough oxygen i...
