Hi Samantha, Nice work! Thanks for posting them for all of us to see. I should probably note that this site is made up mainly of sign makers and sign designers. Your posts sound like you are promoting sales of your products to this audience here. That's okay, but I doubt any of your posts here will ...

Re: Sign blank background paint
Rick, For what it is worth, I have never been much of a fan of Rustoleum. It always seemed to have a lot of oily slime and less pigment and binders. I assume that is to try to keep the price down, but this is just an observation. The sign industry sells paint that seems to be better paint than what ...

Re: A different way of looking at Jackson Hole
Roderick, It often depends on the film crew. I think the extreme vertical slopes are more suited for skiers. The boarders seem to like the boulders and powder and going through the trees. There are plenty of both skiers and boarders here. JH has some of the most extreme slopes in the US, so it draws...

A different way of looking at Jackson Hole
This video isn't that much about signage, but shows the creativity of the film maker and editors using a tilt-shift lens.
It also showcases some of the crazies that live and play on the mountain.

Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Another Sign Movie
Hi Bill, There are three variants of Billhead at LHF....Billhead 1890, 1900, and 1910. It was used extensively in the film, though mainly as subcopy and in the list of products on the round corner. I am fairly sure the rest of the fonts in the video are also from LHF, but you'd have to dig around to...

Re: Another Sign Movie
Bill, The font used most in the film was designed by Tom Kennedy and is available at Letterhead Fonts. I believe the set is called Billhead. I found the film interesting and fairly informative and has a nice "texture". It is refreshing to see someone actually selling a hand lettered job an...

Re: Mr. Jackson has done it again
Hi Bob, Thanks for the kind comments. While I showed quite a few examples to go with the article, to me the value of the article is the message in the body text. Many people assume a person is a good artist because they were blessed with the talent from birth, but in reality, the better artists are ...

Bill,
Much of this depends on how large the posted image is in the first place and also the size and resolution of your monitor.
If the image is 750 pixels or less, it might never appear too large on your monitor.
Hope this helps,
Mike Jackson

Looking for a metal yard stick / cutting rail
http://www.danielsmith.com/Item--i-G-155-060-CR My old cutting rail has been around a while and the cork underside is a bit more dirty than I'd prefer when trimming my photo paper, so I looked around for another on 36" long. I found some on the Internet, but not a 36" version. Does anyone...

Re: London Olympics
As I look at the letterstyle, the one letter that doesn't seem to fit with the rest is the lower case "o". The Zero is boxy, but the lower case "o" is a perfect circle. But, what do I know. The larger logo probably makes more sense if you live in London. I assume it is the shape ...

Doug, By now you probably figured out you can put an almost unlimited variety of flat surfaces behind a piece of glass if you leave some of it clear. I think Larry mentioned spacing his glass off the back surface by about 1/4". That's a variable you can control or adjust based on the size of th...

Doug, Ron used a regular pounce wheel at the very beginning, but then switched to an "Electro-Pounce" to perforate a pattern. There is a piece of sheet metal behind the paper connected to the ground wire of the Electro-Pounce. When the stylus point is run across the paper, it burns small h...

Aaron, There was a guy named something like Bobbo's Bottles who used to sell plastic bottles people used for paint, thinners, varnishes, and so forth. I don't know if they were anything special. Dave, I don't know if you saw it or not, but a reporter was interviewing John Mayer on CNN. During the interview, the album cover was shown on TV. Hi Aaron, First off, Nice Work! Thanks for posting it. I'll make a few suggestions, since it appears you are asking for them. Re: Sand Blasting Mirrors
Mark, You can probably knock the mirror finish off the back of a piece of mirror plex, but it is difficult to etch deep into the plastic as you can with glass. The sand just bounces off. You can blast the front, but it will likely be more of a frosted finish than a good etch. But the best advice is ...
