Re: Tornado through Moore, OK
I write this in the discomfort of my non-seismically sound second story office which is about half a mile from the Hayward earthquake fault. Seismologists say the Hayward fault produces a 6.0-7.0 magnitude earthquake every hundred years or so. The last one was in 1868. Not hard to do the math there....

Re: Sandblasted Letter Gilding
I like to first seal the sand carving with Frog Juice (because its optically clear).
The gild always comes out brighter if it's water gilded, however, due to
the small size of the letters, it would be better and easier to surface gild them,
or perhaps use mica powder rather than gold leaf.

I might be inclined to do it the other way around, with the
paladium as the brightline, and the 12K as the matte center.

Re: Problems with glue chip
Eloquent Mr. Mackle... Well, the reason for the asphaltum varnish is so if the glue overlaps onto it slightly, it "pops" off, keeping a clean edge. So, to me. it is behaving correctly. It also appears that you masked over the asphaltum varnish, sandblasted it, and peeled the mask off witho...

Re: HYDROFLUORIC ACID for Mica Acid Etch
You can achieve a gilded texture via embossing varnish.
Or stipple the area with a liquid type mask, then sandblast
it, to achieve a texture. This can then be cleared and gilded.

Re: Which comes first the mirror or the sign?
My first thought, is, what size is this piece going to be? Crack the glass? Most of us don't like it if our glass is cracked. Asphaltum WILL NOT resist the sandblasting, it will blast right off. You will need to use a vinyl mask. Silvering into a sandblasted area will have a very slight metalic qual...

Re: UK brilliant cutting equipment
Pat Mackle has been known to dabble in brilliant cutting. I believe he's done quite a bit of research on the wheels, etc. He's built his own machines and has toyed with the idea of building them for others that are interested. He's in the USA. Might get a bit pricey shipping something like that to t...
