Re: October Gold Leaf Workshop, Boise, Idaho

There will be a special "Gold Leaf Masters Class" that will take place in 2010, actually on and around 10/10/10...This one will be a week long affair based on a pre-chipped & etched, bevelled glass that involves every technique we can think of.....The artwork is in it's early stages at...

Re: Glass Gilding Final Clearcoat

I have replied to this same question in the past, the clear coats always seem to break down faster than the back-up enamels, I have not clear coated a window job in more than ten years. With Gilders back up enamel & hardener there is really no need, I personally don't think it looks more finishe...

Re: Ebay auction - Anyone recognize this?

The signatures were what gave the piece it's value, some of them are not even around anymore, it would have made sense in the Museum, but is now meaningless to anyone who attended the Conclaves, amazing what windex can do...........wonder if it works on people?..........

That describes it pretty well, the same method was used on the old advertising signs depicting "Factories" with horses & carts etc. although most of those were acid etched first to give the illusion of depth & a slight dulling of the surface to mute the various karats of gold used....

Ivory is just a brand name for that dish washing liquid, which is white as the name suggests, & is just a detergent, a "surfactant" as Rick liked to call it, I would think that any similar type of product found in your country would do the same trick, buy a couple & experiment........

I have been using Edge Positives for years, never had a problem with jagged lines, that is usually more to do with the mesh of the screen, I always use around 180-200 mesh. As far as density of the black goes I always print it twice using left justify on the machine, & in reverse so the printed ...

Bobbie, Use the back up black for your outlines, add 5-10% 1-shot hardener to it, makes it much tougher for cleaning/rubbing afterwards. If you are doing small matte centers use 1 shot 1 hour size, anything on the big side would be better done with 12 hour & left overnight. Do as Billy said &...

Bob....The back up & hardener should be dry enough in 30 mins. It can be helped along with a quick dusting of Kaolin powder. You could also use a quick sealer coat of aerosol shellac, just wipe of the excess with some denatured when everything is dry.....Try not to use any thinner in the One-Sho...

Mark, I have tried different glues, one we mixed at Rick's was I think a mixture of mucilage & spar varnish, seemed to work well, this was coating both surfaces then applying & working out the bubbles, letting it dry upside down to keep your eye on it, the only trouble is with bigger jobs it...
