Re: Design Critique
After looking at this design a few times, I feel that the shape of the blue panel is wrong for the shape of the structure. Its panel is too vertical. Try using a shape that is more horizontal. As Cam stated, the contrast between the structure and the lettering is too similar. Try keeping the Letteri...

Ya know Dave, I like to look at the glass sign pictures you post...I like to look at the background reflections of what you have in the shop even more.
You should post some pics of the inside of your shop. That way I can tell you what I want for Christmas.

Here is the Scan of the Sepia Picture that is on the back. Its a pic of the front of the Collins and McGinness Sign Shop. Due to byte size limitations with the uploaded pictures to this site, its fuzzy at best. So you cant read all the signs that are in the picture. You might see the ghoust image of...

Re: H.H.Day and signcraft
I had the pleasure of locating the book "The American SignWriter", that Mr. Brooke had co-authored back in 1877 with Mr. Collins. The book consists of 20 blank pages with an actual sepia tone picture adhered to each page. 20 pages, 20 photos. The book is located in the Library of Congress,...

Reverse On Glass
And yes, you can spin gold on the reverse side of glass.
Use clear oil size, let it tack up, apply gold, and spin it.
I use slow clear oil size.
I suppose you could use clear quick size..not sure though.

Re: Frank H. Atkinson 1915 Sign Painting Manual
Frank would be proud of you for buying his book at the price you paid...however, you may end up paying more to have it rebound in a conservationist manner than if you had bought one in better condition. My advice is to just enjoy the contents and not worry about having it rebound. If you keep lookin...
