All four pieces chipped beautifully. After three days of no action I moved them onto boards and set them outside in the sunlight. Within an hour they were almost all fully chipped. Only one had a few small plinks in one area where I had blasted slightly deeper. Are you more likely to get a stray chi...

Thanks guys, lots of good replies. I appreciate the help. I have 4 pieces chipping as we speak. The humidity is high here and I suspect I was a bit in a rush to get the mask and glue off. I thought they would be ready to go by 8:00 pm, (about 4 hrs after the first was poured) but I was still at it a...

Thanks Russ for clarifying the question - I guess it helps to understand me if we have been discussing this. In the past couple of years I have played with glue a bit and I'm pretty sure that I left the mask on. I find the "Lil Chisler" works really well for removing most of the the...

Glue Chipping & Mask Removal

Okay guys, at the risk of getting my fingers slapped..... How come the mask is removed before the glue chips? Is it just to make sure no glue has seeped under the mask? If you wish to do a double chip is it then permissable to leave it on? I know that using ashphaltum will solve the problem, but my ...

Thanks Mike, I'm glad you posted that. I have so much to learn....... I think I need to suggest making a couple of samples and work things from there. Hopefully they will sell themselves and I will have the opportunity to figure out what I need to charge and still make this a worthwhile venture. If ...

Thanks Billy Bob, I wish I had a neat project like this one to do. This will be a HUGE learning experience for you, and will certainly help establish you as a "high end" expert. It would be wonderful if I could land it or even part of it, but I suspect that pricing will scare him off. They...

Pricing Glass

This is a whole new world to me. Are there any guidelines, a place to start? Here is a scenario.... Restaurant/Brewery chain is interested in having their in house brew labels made into glass pieces for their different locations. They are interested in a price quote for both a one of a kind piece an...

Hi Larry, My glass made it home safely. I was actually quite impressed, there were no chips or dings in the box that it was stored in. The airlines kept it separate from all the regular luggage which they seem to abuse hideously. The guidelines for checked luggage on the flight I was on were a max (...

Old images and Copyright

What are the regulations as far as copyright on old images. I'm thinking in terms of reproducing or adapting old posters, tobacco logos, and art. I am getting the impression that anything over 75 years is fair game. If this is true, are there exceptions to the rule? Are the laws in Canada different,...

Thanks Mike, Please don't get me wrong I was in no way criticizing, just eager to learn. I really like the copper mirror best, it has an antique elegance to it. I have always favoured copper of all the metallic colors. Do humidity levels play a big part in mirroring projects? Is being in a very dry ...

Wow, I'm amazed at the degree of color difference. In the picture the copper one looks like it has a water stain on it - is that just the picture or is it typical of copper mirroring?
Looks like very fascinating stuff - I hope I can make the time to play with it this fall.

Hi Carol, I bought the Volatile Free sprayer and encapsulant. I haven't used it a lot yet, but it is very simple to use. I love the fact that other than cleaning the overspray off the sprayer, there is virtually no cleanup. The system comes with tips with an augering system inside for mixing that ar...

Vintage art and copyrights

http://www.kel-t-grafix.com/gallery2/signs-18.jpg I would appreciate any useful comments and critiques on this design for a LE Commemorative glass piece. This is the initial draft for a work to celebrate our Province's Centennial. The mottled brown areas are supposed to be chipped glass, but someho...

Pictorals on glass - Saran Wrap?

Can anyone tell me how this is done? I assume that you paint on the saran wrap and adhere to the back of your glass with size. Can this be used with images that are not entirely filled in and if so how?
