Re: shellac............
Hi Danny Rick's treatise is what I was referring to..........I use shellac as a barrier coat between solvent based products. Current project is LED carved glass..... applied a thin wash of asphatum (textured w/cling wrap) to clear glass area, shellaced over that, then quick sized for matte leaf. Wit...

Re: Water Jet Cutting and Glass Work
Hi Kelly,
I have used waterjet cutting for many glass projects as well as other materials. As far as I'm concerned it's far better than CNC for "through" cuts. As for "stop" cuts, I don't think that's possible with waterjet cutting (?)...........CNC is best for that

........from what has been said Jerry, I'm sure it's tempered. It can be chipped, but the chip never seems to be as nice a untempered glass. If you've never seen what happens when tempered glass break, it would be worth the five bucks to whack it on the edge (have some visqueen or something undernea...

gilding textured letters...............
I had earlier posted about doming some 15" aluminum letters I had waterjet cut. The doming turned out great and I was about to gild them when the architect asked if I could add some texture. I went with Magic Smooth and it was like putting frosting on a cake. Before the Smooth cured, I dusted w...

........yes, Tony, I have handlettered a few signs before PC, not a master by any means, but can handle a brush fairly well. this project I'm doing about the latex paint also has a Triangle Solutions ( I love this stuff) metallic iron/rust/sealed bkgd with gilded domed 16" aluminum letters. Of course, after doming the letters, the client now wants to add texture to the domed surface before gilding To bad this wasn't ...

thanks for all replies folks, However, even though I applied a light coat and didn't work it too much, and burnished my paintmask edges well, I still got slight bleeding all around every letter. I am using more acrylic latex for backgrounds now, but other than spraying, how would you eliminate the texture that happens when it is rolled with a short nap pro tiz roller.
