Coats Of Arms and Acid Etching

Here are Some interesting images of acid and gilded panel work which was used on a big scale here in England from around 1880's up to this present day,. You still find these works around our towns and cities hidden away behind plastic fascias and above private residents and listed buildings . Wayne ...

Silver pouring

I was taught by a mirror maker how to make the solutions from raw chemicals and pour them. I personally never get a problem with pouring, cleaning is the biggest factor. I make the batch of silver fresh everytime with new solutions of distilled water in each bottle, same goes for Stannous Chloride (...

Sounds to me your on a winner with that Doug. You probably don't need to change that winning formula. Just don't hand the sketch over! . I would hate to see one of those magnificent carvings on a pub designed by you and made by someone else.

Planet Earth song

I have been trying to track down a tune that I've been hearing occasionally on TV and radio programmes here in the Uk. This tune was being used as an instrumental to the series Planet Earth a wild life programme being shown here and The X Factor which is a follow on series of American Idol. I finall...

Mike. I agree ,that was a mistake I made in my early years of making signs - offering designs for free . Big mistake! Not a nice feeling seeing your design work made by someone else.
I would also treat Camera ready artwork as another part of the job and charge accordingly.

Doug My approach would be very simalar too . I have come across clients when I had my sign shop that would come in and want a design for there shop and expect to pay at the end of the job just for the sign, you could see they were not interested in paying for designs. For a few years I would give clie...

Pat I wish I could look in somewhere my kiln has no sight to check the work. I may just adjust the formula like you said. Just getting a bend at this stage was great for me it .Almost looks antique in places ,the glass is crystal clear. I let it soak for 30 minutes then brought it down to 580 degree...

It took about 5 hours to reach it's maximum temp Wayne then cool down was around 9 hours, you can get a bit impatient when it comes to openning the kiln too early.

Good to see all those signs again Larry.
Amazing how the shop used to change every year I went there. I liked Ricks idea of placing all the faceted glass pieces behind the letters on the Anheuser busch piece.
He brought that piece up to Noel's meet in 2000. Good memories!

Yes Doug I have some pieces in mind to put all the techniques into especially the bird designs. Maybe when you come over! I think the nerveracking thing would be putting it in the kiln with all the work done then slumping or silver staining the piece. Patiece would have to be considered to avoid unw...
