Re: New member, saying Hi and asking about a font

Neville, Until about 1982 or so, no one had much access to fonts of any kind, much less the ability to digitize our own artwork. If there is a piece of glass with a remaining image, you can put a piece of paper over it and rub across it with a crayon or graphite stick (make a rubbing). It will give ...

Re: Desperate for info!

Chris, The first thing I would question is how well you scrubbed the glass before beginning your project? No telling what kind of silicones, oils, and chemicals are in over the counter cleaners, like Windex. In the old days, Bon-Ami might have been enough, but I wonder if a quick rub with acetone an...

JH Art Camp: Totem Heads Aug 1990 and Casting Call

Darla and I hosted a couple of Art Camps here in Jackson Hole. On the Totemheads meet, we divided up a timber and each person or team carved a portion. Re: too white !!

Hi Vance, The phpBB was updated to the newest version, which should mean we won't need to pay to have it updated again for a while. The down side to the new update is there are very few available templates yet. Ryan picked the one he could find that was the closest to what we had on the old server. ...

Hi Andrew, Thanks for making the post...and your comments prompted me to adjust the settings for attachments. It can now handle a full meg file, where before the default size was something like 257k. I believe these are photos taken by Danny Baronian at the first Conclave after Rick Glawson's passing. The photos filenames indicate the year was 2001.

Darla and I spent a couple of warm weeks in Costa Rica in January. It was roughly 88 degrees there and -20 degrees here in Jackson Hole during our trip. Easy trade! Re: The Forum vs Facebook

Normally, the Denver Chapter of the Letterheads sends me a check in January for $400. I use it periodically throughout the year to pay for the domain registration, site storage, and the Wordpress site. If you look at the address bar, this site now has the Secure Site (https) designation, which cost ...

Re: The Forum vs Facebook

It might be worth adding that the Denver Letterheads has been paying for the majority of the costs for this site for quite a few years. Last year, they suggested it might be their last year to be able to pay the money. I haven't asked about it lately, but it will soon be time to make that decision. ...

Gum Tragacanth

Atkinson mentions Gum Tragacanth in his book. Back in the early days of Letterheads, we made a vat of water and gum tragacanth, floated paint on the surface, and then dipped panels into it. Re: need advice on leaves

Megan, You can always buy a commercial mirror, then mask the back of it with sandblast stencil. Cut and remove the areas where you will want color and lightly sandblast the backing and silver off the glass. Then just fill in the colors. You won't know it was ever etched and you'll have a perfect mir...
