design ideas
Hi again all......just today I found a message in my message box from a fellow head who asked... " I have to ask you where your design ideas come from, where do you look for inspiration? " and thought this was a good question to share, especially as this isn't the first time I've been aske...

D70s question
One of the things I haven't yet worked out is the file numbering. When I switch from one card to next all the numbers start at the beginning again and almost lost a ton of stuff when I tried to place them all in the same folder. Where is or is there a way to change this! You guys have been a pile of...

Hi Jesper and to all. Am in the process of learning how to upload all this to my web site rather than have ol' Mike here going through the process. It was my intent to just share some great photo's from the UK that you may never have the opportunity to see. It never occured to me to host a site of t...

Smitty.....Paris was amazing and the countryside beautiful beyond anything I was ready for. More on this later but a quick aside...as you can imagine I shot lots of foto's although they(signwriting) don't compare with the work in England. and So...that's how they did this work. It always amazes me h...

Smitty, I also love how much the traditional techniques are used. In particular how he does a mirror with gold letters and an outline only...as in the liquor pieces. I saw quite a few done this way when I was over your way these past few years and now finally you might be able to explain how this wa...

A quick addition. The piece looks to be by the same craftsman as did the Old Blue Last and Victoria and a number of others we have seen...the Balmoral is another. Between Dave and I we should try and dig up a photo or two of that/those pieces. AND as always the work coming out of Smitty's shop is ou...

Hi again All.....That is an amazing glass piece and in fact I saw a few of that caliber in a similar state. It would have been installed arround 1890's by a company that was proud of the work and was a supplier to many pubs for brilliant cut and acid etched. There were several at the time that speci...

Ray...Think it's a great idea using the silcon carbide abrasive and am willing to bet any probs are just related to the size of glass and distribution of the glue. It always seems arround here that the larger the piece the more we need to hustle through the steps...it sets(glue) at the same rate wea...

Terry....good hearing from you here again and loved a look at your kit. I might have to bribe someone to win that one for me!! As an old sho-card writer I never had a cool kit, although now that I have a few of the necessary woodworking skills (although not as good as Danny here) I might have to mak...

Kelly....a good question with a single answer (and you are right about the asphaltum method too!) it will be a mess of plinks and oysters and have seen this in person. One of the first times i tried it I didn't realise how quickly the glue sets-up ready for cutting and thought to leave it to get rea...

Kenneth...I have never tried any of the methods you are going to work on as they never were necessary for me. Glass, yes, is fragile but in the last 10 or so years I've had one glass piece broken by accident (a front door) and one by an irrate customer. So...firstly I would examine what I was trying...
