Love it....My hero Ivan Ellicott (Peterborough Ontario) sho-card writer, before I started my apprenticeship here in Ottawa, admired and showed me H.C.Martins books. With 30 or so years of reflection I can understand "Uncle Franks" frustration. Even today I notice a "trend" in sev...

design ideas

Hi again all......just today I found a message in my message box from a fellow head who asked... " I have to ask you where your design ideas come from, where do you look for inspiration? " and thought this was a good question to share, especially as this isn't the first time I've been aske...

D70s question

One of the things I haven't yet worked out is the file numbering. When I switch from one card to next all the numbers start at the beginning again and almost lost a ton of stuff when I tried to place them all in the same folder. Where is or is there a way to change this! You guys have been a pile of...

Hi Joe...just to second what John has said and add that standing them off the backgnd is critical. Have seen very few(over there) that were not and usually in poor condition... glass gilded outlines were also very much in prominence. Look forward to seeing what you do!

Hi .. The use of the "nipper" is hard to describe although the secret is in how far in or out the "movable pointer/wedge" is relative to the glass. This is the time to experiment. If you get small crumbles on the edge move the pointer further out. You are likely to need to adjust...

Smitty.....Paris was amazing and the countryside beautiful beyond anything I was ready for. More on this later but a quick aside...as you can imagine I shot lots of foto's although they(signwriting) don't compare with the work in England. and So...that's how they did this work. It always amazes me h...

Smitty, I also love how much the traditional techniques are used. In particular how he does a mirror with gold letters and an outline only...as in the liquor pieces. I saw quite a few done this way when I was over your way these past few years and now finally you might be able to explain how this wa...

A quick addition. The piece looks to be by the same craftsman as did the Old Blue Last and Victoria and a number of others we have seen...the Balmoral is another. Hi again All.....That is an amazing glass piece and in fact I saw a few of that caliber in a similar state.
