Jerry..........for my LED carved panels, I use XYZ Systems in Canada. If you want more info give me a call. I would also suggest using Starphire glass (low lead low iron content=no greenish tint to carvings.........really nice )

I also use LeFrancs slow size most of the time Doug, but because this project had to be cleared, and there was a time delivery factor, I had some concerns about slow size being fully cured . I really don't like size that's ready too fast either.

I used a recently purchased can of Rolco size,........... never used that brand before (the first can I ever bought some 30 years ago was Rolco, and I still have it)......Lee Littlewood uses it all the time. When I sprayed it (straight), it tacked real quick (30 minutes) and didn't stay open too lon...

Hey Doug, thanks for asking. The project went well. Sprayed Rolco quick size, chopped up metal leaves in coffee grinder (just a quick hit on the button...thanks for that tip Danny), placed all the different karat pieces in a cigar box, mixed/fluffed them up, and kinda scattered with a wide brush ove...

I'm with you Dan, I also appreciate seeing what others charge. When discussing how I figure pricing with friends and other signartist, I explain that I just pick a few numbers and then see what makes me feel good. Althought I think about how long it might take to complete the task, I never price by ...

Thanks for reply Billy Bob.... I agree that the "handling"issue could be resolved with a wrap of some sort, but I think the main issue here is that leaf less than 23K will tanish outside because of the silver content..there is no doubt about that.........and so this piece has to be cleared...

clear coating over gold...........

normally something I would never do, but this carved bird is going to be handled by a few hands before it get to its final perch atop the exterior totem pole in Lake Tahoe. questions about size and skewings...........

I have two questions……….when I applied my size for the Mica base on my carved bird, I waited a little too long for tack time and didn’t get complete coverage. Should I wait 24hrs to spray a second application of Rolco quick size (Sepp says the cure time to clearcoat is 24hrs) or can I apply after 12...

Hey Rod, I do these all the time for a local awning shop........just what John said, but without the shellac spray. hahaahaaa.... as I'm about to start my gilding project on the carved bird, the architect now want the gilded bird to have the feeling of a Jackson Pollock painting...........what did he just say? the cabinet shop that's the bird is giving it two thin coats of an epoxy sealer....then I will prime/paint/size/23k gild. I was told today that the architects in SF want it to look a bit aged /patinaed, rather than brand new shinny. My thought is after gilding, to spray or brush a thinned asphaltum ...
