Parade banner

Post by Vegard Eidskrem »

(Sorry if my english is bad, im from Norway)

Hi there:)

Will start by presenting myself, since I am new to the forum here.

I am a guy on 24 from Aalesund, Norway. I work in a small family business that has been in the sign business since 1970.
We are one of the few in Norway that still practice screen printing, gold leaf ect. .

I am a huge fan of the signs of the older style, and love to learn more about this when I'm pretty young in the subject to date.
My father is my boss and mentor with 50 years in the profession.
He is recently retired but working as much yet.

I have recently visited various websites and clicking around on sites like letterheadfonts, signs101, goldenstudios and of course this site (!) and have been speachless by the signs that you create around.

Going to buy all the stunning vector panels I saw at the golden studios and some letterhead fonts, so I can practice to make great signs that many of you can, maybe I will be as good one day:)

I like particularly good sign with Art Nouveau style, since my town is known for the distinctive architecture.
Aalesund burned down completely in 1904 and was rebuilt in pure Art Nouveau style.

Now I have a project in which I will make a parade banner to an school corps, but after a lot back an forth I am stuck.
Then I was hoping maybe some of you may have an idea of the design.
After seen all the great designs, I feel this hopeless :|

Posted a picture and .eps file so you can see for yourself what I so far have made :)

eps file: http://uploading.com/files/8ea5d134/_n% ... 5C3%25B8y/

Ps. The green bushes infront of the school is to illustrate that there is an park infront of the school.
But its not nessesary to have an school there at all...maybe something else?

Vergard,

welcome. Don't apologize for your your English. Or that your from Norway ;-) You'd be hard pressed to find many on this forum in the US or Canada that could write in your native language.

For banner or panels, get the CD's from Mike's collection. The Broadway collection has a large selection of elements from the Art Deco era that would be helpful.

Nice to see you understand screen printing. Many people still refer to silk screen printing. I learned from a man in the business, and was admonished when using the term silk screening. He'd ask"When's the last time you used silk for your screen"? Only took a few times to realize I needed to change the term, as he sure wasn't!

Again, welcome.

Danny
