Signwriters Gold Leaf Workshop UK
Hi
I had a Gold Leaf workshop here back in November and just got round to uploading photos of my finished glass panel and some of Coline working on her panel.
Coline who is from France but now living in Ireland travelled over to learn this craft. She will post some of her picks soon to show you.
Here are a number of shots to show the panel from different angles and close ups.. I have other workshops booked up now for this year until April but if anyone is interested in travelling to the uk for one of my courses either one to one or a group booking please contact me here at chapman_and_smith@btinternet.com or through my website here at http://www.davidadriansmith.com
Ok Thanks
Dave

last one. Just trying to show the glass in different angles which is so hard, sorry for the amount of photos..
Dave
this one shows the hand lettered split shading. It's hard to tell from the pictures but every ornate scroll and borders all have hand shaded colour. That bit took ages.

CRIKEY!
You make everyone elses project look like chump change.
Now I know you must be runnin' out of wall space to hang
all those. You just send that one over here to Machine....
I'll throw a few of mine out to make room for it.
You'll be written up in all the history books!
I'm comin'....one of these days!

Hi Bob. Thanks mate. You mentioned on Facebook about workshops. I will only be teaching here in the UK now, probably for at least the next five years.
Most of the students are travelling to me and making a holiday of it at the same time. Sorry about this , your more than welcome here. I plan on a group meet workshop and visiting pubs around London at the same time to show original work. I now have a great guide and he's called Doug Bernhardt. Hopefully see you in Belfast next year.

Davey Boy, Just another outstanding piece and the photo journal a real treat. Tell me.....is that all 1-shot I see you using? Also what mediums are you mixing with the paint to keep them open (if you do) and what is that beautiful transparent colour blended in the large "G" with the punties? Doing a larger workshop huh? Count me in a a tour guide and student anytime!!

Re: Signwriters Gold Leaf Workshop UK
Me teach you as a student,..You've forgotten more than I will ever know.... Thanks mate..... The paint is one shot Doug, not as good as it once was as we all know. I also am using keeps enamels ,these are great and full of lead ,bought about 60 tins from Ashley Bishops friend in London. This was a great company for glass enamels especially the Intenso range, they are long gone and took the recipes with them...... I would say nearly the same as the Ronan paints which I also use.
The transparent glaze is a simalar paint to Ricks Dragon blood red,I have mixed red's and Black's behind the translucent coat.
Thanks again..... and Thankyou also Duncan

Davey....we could go on and on slapping each others back, but heck.....i'll still be there and much thanx for the explanations although I'm not sure yet what the mixture in evidence in photo named "Goldforum"is. It appears like/to be, a transparent yellow screen ink. I've heard you speak before of the quality of the "Keeps" line of paints...like so many other great things "Langnickel and Raphael" brushes as well, gone with the Passenger Pidgeon. Am now looking for a new line of brushes to try and get used to

That is some gilded craftsmanship!
Over the top, again.
If I ever get the money, I'd be proud to take a class from the gold-guru, DAS.
I'd throw away all my previous pieces to have one of those hanging on my wall.
Excellent skills, excellent teacher.

Tony thanks mate. You are welcome anytime you know that.. Doug the yellow is Asphaltum glaze mixed with ww window spar clear to help it set up and dry. This is then gold sized and gilded with 23crt. It looks yellow because of the translucency from the gradients your seeing.......

Re: Signwriters Gold Leaf Workshop UK
Ahh....in a photo it all looks so different!! Also I notice that your student is using 2 recent improvements to the gilding process. The Smith tip (you clever bugger) and the jewellers brush for cleaning up leftover leaf. I have one John Jordan gave /sold me a few years ago....also a terrific advance.

I agree Doug the Jordan brush is very slick, Rick Glawson would of found that a joy to work with.
