Angel Gilding

Post by Al_Daines »

Hi to you all,

My name is Alan (yu can call me Al :D ) I am a Brit living in Turkey and for the past 3 years have been learning the art of glass etching and carving (sanblasting & hand engraving) I am also delving in to stained glass and recently doing a lot of stone work.
I have spent a great deal of time and effort in learning these crafts and most of it is self taught with the aid of expert advice from sandcarvers in other countries via forums and emails and the purchase of many books and videos. Acquiring the tools and equipment has been a major endevour and much of what I have has had to be custom made or brought over by friends in the UK.
Now to the point of his post, I would really like to be able to mirror and angel gild my own glass and despite much research I cannot find any books or courses on this subject. I have found the Angelgilding.com site and would love to be able to buy the kits from there but it is far too difficult to try and import goods. Have already lost a lot of money trying to import goods and can't afford to risk it again
From the research I have done it would seem that I can source the raw materials here in Turkey but I need to be sure that I am correct in what I need and also I need to know thecombinations and dilutions of the raw ingredients as well as confirming that my research on the procedures is correct.
So is there anyone here that can help me with this or point me in the right direction for the information that I need. Are there any courses on this technique (In Europe preferably) or any books or videos on the subject. I have searched this forrum and although there is information on mirroring and angel gilding there is nothing really specific to my needs.
I have seen a couple of posts (one in particular from Dave Smith, boy would I like a small percentage of his skills) where using raw ingredients was mentioned so I am really hoping someone here could help me.
Of course I understand that people may not wish to give this information on a public forum (if at all) so please PM or email me if you can help.
Hope someone can help.

Alan
