Another New Guy

Post by kevin klein »

Hello everyone. I just fiund this site yesterday and figured it's about time I get on one.
I've been hand lettering since the late eighties, then got a gerber IVB in about 93.
After seeing some of my past work from the BC era, I thaught to myself "How did I do That? It looks so perfect."

I never stopped using the brushes, but the machine makes it a lot easyer to do a lot of small perfect lettering and also opunce patterns. When I got some new Mack brown quills last week and saw how much better they worked than my worn out ones, I kinda got the bug to work more with them.

Oh yes, the IVB is an antique but still works. Sorry about that!

How many left handers are out there? Does it cause an impeedance for you with the normal stroke directions?

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to the site!

There are lots of left handed sign painters around. There are lots of right handed sign painters that have to work backwards on reverse glass. If anyone ever thought there was a penalty for being left handed when surface lettering, then the same people would have to concede the same issue applies for right handers working backwards. I learned using a mahl stick, which kept my hand and fingers off the glass in either direction.
