Making this glass panel for the poet Edward Lear nonsence alphabet, do a google search on him , it is a commision piece from the Liverpool Council. Lots of artist working on different letters in other mediums including sculpture. exciting project.
The glass is 6 feet by 4 feet and half inch thick was interesting to see if my counter balance would take such weight, I survived at least! gilding it this week and then into painting etc.

Wow, it is another exciting project Dave! Do you have any idea of how much that 1/2" glass weighs?
I'll bet this will be another Dy-no-mite piece of art like you always produce. Please keep us posted -
hey ron...........it should weight about 156#. 1/4" plate weights about 3.25#s per sq ft. hope you're doing well. ......and dave, thanks for taking us down another road on your journey.
Erik. This was two different stipples of mica all done glass facing up ,here is what it looks like with some gold and 12 crt leaf on. also some details from the back side with some blended shadows.
That looks fantastic Dave. Man, whenever you post your work I realize that I need to push myself a lot more.

Ron , Vance, Rod Thanks . The weight was certainly very heavy I know at the time of cutting I had 2 25 kilogramme weight training plates on the end.It was kind of hard in a small space to do the cutting but I managed to fight each object as I came to it. I think I could go bigger on panel size but would need more height for this type of cutting. all a learning curve....

There you are doing all those fine glass techniques while I am getting mostly getting brick etching jobs lately (I need a new sales rep! )
I must have done something wicked in an earlier life! lol!

Hey thanks evryone. Yes I will put some progress pics up as I go with this one Pat. Having some computer issues at present but thanks to Mike hopefully sorted by tommorow.
Here is some of the near final images of this artwork. I still need to apply the abalone shell to the clear areas in the letters and borders etc. Driving it to Liverpool on Friday. Taken longer than expected due to waiting for paint to dry. Should hopefully fit in nicely with the other letters of this Lear Alphabet..
A few more picks just show some closer detail .The Brilliant cutting blends from 12,18 to 22 crt goldleaf.This was a tricky part and I was forever cleaning the glass because of the amount of water size running everywhere. anyway it was a fun project to be asked to make. Thanks guys.

Thanks Pat very much..and you also Jerry, well we can all do this stuff ,I just got lucky getting the job... It's great when the client appreciates it and does not mind paying for this kind of work... Hopefully these kind of jobs will keep coming in like this.......
Dave, it always amazes me how you bring so many technical styles together in harmony...The forthought and artwork that goes into a project like this before you even start on the glass is for me mesmerizing, like figuring out what comes first ,second, third , in the finishing process....Absolutely wonderful Dave...Thanks for the look see...Pat

Thanks Bill and Pat. Bill there are different artists working on each letter in the medium they work in, I will be in Liverpool on Friday so will take some photos and post them here of each letter from Lear's alphabet. Some wonderful work being created.. Pat it does not always go to plan I think a little luck sometimes. I will admit I would like to have painted in the background and made the black outline thinner but this is what they wanted so people could look around the design.. hopefully it will all look ok on the day. I think there have been some problems with measurements for the glass but hopefully they measured it right will soon see. fingers crossed!..

following on from this post ,this is part of the interior to the Lear project with two other parts of the alphabet A is for Ant , O is for Owl... These ants look great!
