I contacted SignCraft about putting the article online, which they did. AND, they added a lot of the other images that didn't get into the article because of space limitations.

Congrats on the job, Mike, and the time spent on creating the collections is still paying off.
I get real tickled when I see the hand lettering digitized per project, not grabbing a font out of the shoe box,
and always envisioned this as the best use of digital prints in the sign biz.
Good article, short, with a lot of eye candy!
Aho!

Nice job Mike.
How did you do the blended shade on the ball toss sign.
maybe a step by step.
Thanks Bill.

Re: Silver Dollar City Designs in SignCraft
Bill,
That was actually pretty easy as long as you make sure the shade is on a separate layer.
1. Turn on preserve transparency on the shade layer. That keeps the background from getting sprayed
2. Fill the shade with red.
3. Since the shade was created at 45 degrees, I could make airbrush strokes at 45 degrees by holding down the shift key while making the pass. Some got darker tones and some strokes were lighter highlights.
Well, that's the basics. I could also have rotated the entire canvas 45 degrees and painted only horizontal strokes, then rotated back 45 degrees later. I might have make a layer mask on a few of the details at some of the more crispy serifs.
A more advanced user might put highlights on one layer and shadows on another but I don't think I needed to do that on this project.
