Hi-
I want to duplicate the lettering on Sam Spade's entrance door from the Maltese Falcon. The questions are: 1. Does anyone know what font was used, or how to find out? 2. What is the simpliest way to create the lettering? 3. How hard is it to paint it on as opposed to using vinyl? 4. Where would I find the vinyl letters? 5. Any other suggestions?
Thanks-
Roderick
David,
We watched "The Maltese Falcon last night. Thanks it's a classic. The whole first part of the movie is a sign painters dream.Spades got window signs everywhere and the shadows are very cool.As far as I could tell the lettering is "Half Block plain,Thick and thin.I found it in a book called"The book of alphabets by Al Imell.I'd say get out your brushes and just do it.Thats the easy way.Or order it from me ,I'd be happy to do it.

If you have a "still" (from the movie) of the copy, you could scan it and create vector art over it in Illustrator. Then you could cut it in vinyl (if that's what you really want to do...).
