I must admit that I never met Rick. From reading the posts on this forum, I can tell that he was an incredible man as well as artist and friend. As a mostly lurker here, I just wanted to let you know that those of you whom I have the opportunity to meet (in person and via the internet or a phone call) would certainly make Rick proud. Besides your involement here on this wonderful Bulletin Board, many of you have gone out of your way on the side with me.
Rick isn't gone. I've met Rick in many of you here. And I hope to meet more of you in the future.
Thank-you all very much.

nbweberWas thinking about this last night....went to visit some of old posts from last year and sort of re-lived it all. ... that was a hard day last year!...and it has been a trying year since.
Doug I miss the big guy to. I remember after spending a long weekend following Rick around like a apprentice pup. Learning every minute, I thanked him more than once for his valuable lessons and time. He looked at me and said I look forward to seeing what you do with it. I'll never forget that moment.
Thanks to all you friends

Kent SmithHi Noel, following him arround the shop was like trying to keep up with a race horse. He knew where everything was and every drawer, nook and cranny was FILLED with so much "cool" stuff! Trying to follow his conversation I was endlessly distracted by all this. Pair that with his keen intellect and dry humour no wonder we felt like puppies....!

Larry White - Still missing a friendIt was hard to think about anything else today. There's still a hole there that will be hard to fill.
I guess what we all can do as a memorial is to treat others the way he treated us. It would be a better world.

...from taking Rick's workshop back in 1988, then being invited to attend his annual Conclave Letterhead meetings, Rick Glawson and his passion for glass art, became a big part of my life. His interest and enthusiasm for that art will remain unequalled. He freely shared all he had with me and all of us. Not only was he a mentor and a friend, he was a role model on how to live. I hope to continue in his tradition of seeking knowledge, experimenting and sharing with others.
...I doubt I'll ever stop missing him... -LW

Mike JacksonThank you Ron, for re-posting your link. While there is deep sadness as this day passes, there is also a reverant joy in the knowledge that Rick was a part of my life that I shall never forget. There isn't a week, or sometimes a day goes by that I don't think about some technique or word of advice that he shared with me. Your photos bring back memories of the long phone call about the test piece that I made so Rick could demonstrate one of his blending techniques. I have that piece of glass mounted on the wall of my studio as a reminder of Rick's way of sharing his Craft to others as will I...Robin Sharrard

Hi Ron,
Thanks for posting the note. I looked at all the photos on your linked page. There is certainly an air of saddness looking at the photos, but well worth the time.
I was always asking Rick to post his little gems of knowledge on this Forum, but I guess he was either too busy or maybe intimidated by the posting process. Luckily for us, he did write a lot down in numerous small technical sheets and we have been able to assemble them here in the Rick Glawson section. Unfortunately, we don't have Rick to call anymore, but we at least have a large chunk of information he left.
Best wishes to all,
Mike Jackson
