A customer has given me a few nice pieces of glass to use, with polished edges & everything. They are about 10" square. I am making masks to use to frost them, then try chipping again. The problem is, my mask will not stick at all. I have used 409, then denatured alchohol, then cake Bon Ami.
Is there something in the glass maybe, doing this? At first I tried just the Bon Ami, then that did not work so I am trying the 409, alcohol, then Bon Ami, still won't stick.
Thank you.

Bobbie,
I for one have never had such a problem.I would try some other type of mask material first. If it works you know it was the mask.If it doesn't you know it's the glass.I would do the same with another piece of glass.
Good luck

Bobbie,
It sounds like you are already experimenting, but I'd throw out two possibilities:
A: You aren't getting some sort of residue off the glass. Question about A....Will anything stick to the glass? Other tape? Duct tape? Answer A: If nothing will stick to the scrubbed glass, it must be loaded with silicone or some other oily residue you haven't cut yet. Try some acetone on it, too.
B: Your mask is old or defective. Question about B....Will your mask stick to other glass you might have around the shop? Answer B: If your mask won't stick to other glass, try some different mask.
Good luck,
Mike Jackson

Thank you, all. I think it was my mask. I am using the sandblast mask I have, & it worked fine
One more thing....I frosted the glass to the edge, hope this is ok to chip to the edge! I had not thought of it until it was done, I have layed a line of tape around the outside edge so the glue will not run over the side. i guess I am learning the hard way! I did think of maybe creating aborder of frosted glass around the edge & maybe chippin g inside of that, but I am not sure how that would work, so I am doing it the other way. These are gifts, so if it fails, fine, i will know next time. The glass is 1/4 thick, plenty thick.

Bobbie, if your looking for other means of decoration for your glass, check this out:
http://www.theletterheads.com/lhparts/g ... ackle.html
Could work well for your frosted edges, and add a nice border element.
