I have two questions……….when I applied my size for the Mica base on my carved bird, I waited a little too long for tack time and didn’t get complete coverage. Should I wait 24hrs to spray a second application of Rolco quick size (Sepp says the cure time to clearcoat is 24hrs) or can I apply after 12hrs without fear of alligatoring ?
The second question is………I have 12 books of various leaf karats and I need to make skewings it all. The little piece are to be randomly applied to the Mica coated bird. My thought was to place several leaves of different karats into a cigar box and kinda tear them up with chopsticks or such and shake box………or cut each leaf into small piece on cutting pad then put them in the box and shake. Any ideas out there in radio land ? thanks

Hi Vance,
if your re-coating I'd test in an inconspicuous spot after 12 hours. I'd think the size and clear coat are two different things, and the reason why Sepp said to wait the 12 hours to clear coat. I take it your working on Sunday trying to finish a job due tomorrow? No one else works like that.......
You want to speed it up, don't set it in the sun, put a fan on it.
Gold skewing's / leaf: crinkle them up and put them in a blade coffee grinder. Hit the on button for a few seconds and check the results. Grind until you get what looks good. Clean grinder well when done or wife may not be too happy.... unless your after that Martha Stewart gold coffee look.
Probably one of the best uses for 'variegated gold' (coffee grinder). Produces a very nice look.
Another thought on the mica size. Apply a light coat of 1 shot quick size with a foam brush. Mica can be applied after 10 minutes, you don't want the tack you'd use for leaf; at that point it's too dry.

size and skewings
Hi both of you. Good idea for the coffee grinder. Might want to give it a wipe with alcohol before to minimize the gold sticking to the sides? We used to put odd sheets in a small box or cigar box with a few rough sided pebbles and shake.
Most of the quick sizes will cure enough in 24 to 36 hours for recoat, although it, like other coatings in the family, does not fully cure for 14 to 18 days. The 1shot size is a good solution as it is ready so much sooner. It will adhere to the quick size which is almost cured.
