BobLong before Rick got his own web site for Esoteric, I created a really simple one on my web site for him. Over the years, the page made its way to the search engines, so some people have been calling me for supplies.
I modifed that old page this morning, removing all the old contact information, and I made a basic list of suppliers who might still be able to supply leaf, size, brushes and supplies. This isn't an all inclusive list, but hopefully will fill the huge void.

Hope this helps,

Mike JacksonGuys,
How about glue for glue chipping? any ideas?
Does anyone know the latest on Esoteric?
Is Lola going to re-open , or just retire?
Thanks Bob
Hello Bob,
Unless the family can find Rick's will (assuming it is fully executed under California law), the estate will probably have to go into probate. That is a slow and expensive process. It is hard to speculate whether Esoteric Sign Supply will survive. We can only hope it does.
For now, I have been trying to make a supplier list for some of the supplies. If and when Lola starts selling supplies again, I can remove it.
So far, I do not have the source Rick used for the glue. Just a few weeks before his death, we were talking about that very subject. He was telling me of the different manufacturers and their numbering systems. He told me he would write all the information about the numbering problems in a post for this site, but of course that never happened.
I'd be willing to buy a 100 lb bag and sell it in smaller quantities if anyone knows the name of the source.

Mike Jackson - Glue Chip Glue SourceMike,
Put me down for some glue when you get it.
Hey Mike I just thought of something.
Wouldn't you and Darla, and the kids like to get out of that cold snowy place you live, and move to nice SUNNY So. Cal? It was 80 today ?? lol
Perhaps you can make Rick's family an offer ?
Bob
Hi Bob,
Nope, we like the mountains! I did some searching around on the net today and found Etchmaster. They sell glue chip glue for around $7 per pound, or about $25 for five pounds. I got an even better price for 100 lbs, but there is no need for me to sell it if Norm already does. I included the link below.
Nice site, by the way. I see that Bill Hueg is doing one of the glue chip glass classes. Check it out while you are there.

Mike JacksonOK, I got one....
where can you find potassium sulfate (also called liver sulfate)... I've tried drug stores and a local fertilizer company (they gave me a form call potash, won't work)...I'm using it to tarnish silver on a picture frame
also, where can you find aniline powders...used for tinting gold or silver frames and furniture when mixed with shellac
any idea?
Tony,
Check the list again. I added a few more names and links. Del Amo Chemical probably has some of the items you need. I just looked over Canadian SignCrafters Supplies' site and see a lot of miscellaneous products like gelatin sheets, Res-N Gel, and so forth.

I just ran out of Asphaltum. Any ideas for that one?
B.
Mike jackson - Asphaltum SourceFor screenprinting (not brush lettering) we found that Roof Patch from our local hardware store printed better than rick's asphaltum, with fewer bubbles and it seemed to hold against acid ok... It'd be nice to find something that really sticks to the glass - it seems that most of the "tars" like asphaltum will lift after being wet for awhile. All the tar-like things are natural products, mined in differnt places so they may have different reactions.
My guess is Canadian Signcrafters Supply has some of the oddball supplies, so that might be a good place to start. When Rick was at our old shop a long time ago, I showed him a couple of cans of asphaltum I got from Steven Parrish. They were labeled by Sherwin Williams. From all my recollections of events following that, Rick called Sherwin Williams. They still made and sold it, but only in 55 gallon drums. Rick bought a drum and then repackaged it. I believe Rick bought the Commonwealth product line, using their labels for the products.
I just called Dick Blick and they still sell Asphaltum (Product # C-45205-1004). I think they sell it in pints and quarts. Asphaltum is still used in printmaking and is still readily making. (remember the old zinc plate/acid procsss?)

THANKS MIKE!

Barbara SchillingI stopped making Asphaltum and Damar varnish when Rick took over and I passed on my formulas and raw materials. I still have a little left but raw asphaltum is available from Graphic Chemical & Ink Co., 728 N. Yale Ave, Villa Park, IL 60181 (P.O. Box 27) There are other sources for some of the materials if the ones that Mike listed does not have what you are looking for, I may be able to find a source in my files. Let me know if there is something you are desperate to find.
AND THANKS KENT!
