Hanging glass

Post by joe_jones »

What are my options on hanging a 1/4 scalloped edge panel? would 40" x 20" be too big?

Because of the scalloped edge I don't want to frame it.

Thanks

Joe

Have seen a few with same attributes (nipped edges) hung in frames with a clever set of brackets. Not being an engineer myself,I would drill and screw this to it's surface. Glass drill bits are easy to find and the appropriate sized screws with decorative rosettes look teriffic!

Hanging Glass...

This piece is 46" x 20" and hangs on 2 brass hangers. I think you could even go a bit larger than this, but I'm not sure what the limit is. Glass is quite strong with the force in this direction, it's the surface tension of the glass that is weak, and that's how glue chipping works so well. Also, check out this website for some interesting edge clips and blind hangers.

But as for your piece, you shouldn't have any problems. I always like to drill the holes after scalloping the edge. Give yourself a good inch or so in from the edge. :D

On this piece, I flocked a board and had it framed. I then mounted the scalloped edged glass, with standoffs to the flocked board. You could use this same technique and mount it directly to the wall using standoffs. You would probably want a standoff in each corner.

where do you get the brass hangers? This piece will be in a store front window. I like those stand off, have to keep that in mind for the future.

I just used those plasic mirror holders on this one
