Ghost Signs

Post by Dennis Davis »

Not being in the sign trade, the term ghost signs may be incorrect but what I am referring to are signs that were painted eons ago and resurface on the sides of old buildings.

I just wanted to inform those interested in these old signs that the Big Sky Journal Summer 2005 edition has an article called "Reading the Signs" with the story by Michele Corriel and photos by Tom Ferris. It can be found on pages 120 thru 127. Photos were taken in the following towns; Helena, Butte, Livingston, and Willow Creek. Each page has a photo of a building with one of these old signs on it.

Mike, I think you are one of the folks who has an interest in these signs and, for all I know, you may have taken pictures of some of these during your personal travels.

There are a few old wall signs on this page:

They were taken in Ogden, UT.

I pull over regularly and take a photo or two of the old signs. They can be pretty darned cool!

Here's a topic I started on the Living Sky forum to get people to post old signs from their towns. I put some of my collection on there (I've been collecting old signs for a while) I find them to be great reference for the type of work I do. Feel free to add to the post or maybe start one here
