What brand gold do you prefer???

Hey guys and girls, I am wondering what brands of gold you prefer for different purposes.
I personally have liked the FOAB and Manetti in patent 23K gold.
I just used up my pack of Schwabacher loose 23K gold which I was never happy with, too many pinholes. I have a couple of books of the FOAB 23K glass gold which I like the quality and consistancy.

that I have used on glass.

A quick few as this is such a personal choice thing....Love german leaf for patent and Italian in loose for surface gilds...for glass I also love the Monarch which is something like a double gold. Premiuim leaves....and welcome any corrections

Manetti 23K loose for glass (has to be Italian, is there anything else to be?)
Crocodile double23K loose for first surface, I never use patent.

Just seems I never have a problem with either of the before mentioned as far as quality and ease of use. And I've used either for first or second surface if by chance I forgot to keep the inventory up.

Seegar...what do you mean by first and second surface? First time (I think) I've heard that expression.

Doug,
If I understand correctly, the terms first and second surface have to do with the progression of viewing the glass from the outside. The outside of the glass is first surface, the back of that glass is second surface. Most of our glass work is done second surface.
If you were working on an window that was a double-paned insulated unit, technically you would be working 4th surface. There are even ocassions where you may do some work on a piece of glass and it is then triple glazed between 2 other pieces of glass. There would be 6 surfaces in this case, and once again they would be numbered starting with the outside viewing surface.
This is the sense in which I've heard it used but have never had it explained so, if I've got it wrong, someone correct me. Maybe Seegar can jump in if he has any input.

Oh, and brand of Gold -I like Monarch or FOAB. I almost never use patent unless doing a surface gild outdoors or something like that.
