Gold Leaf on glass

Post by Rob Collard »

I want to guild a company name on a window but I'm not sure how to. I feel preety confident about my leafing skills but have always done it on automotive based substrates.Do I need adhesion promoter on the glass first? I've been using one-shot quick size and then spraying Dupont automotive clear over the entire panel. For this job I was going to do only the letters and brush clear but my gut told me I should check with someone been doing it more than me.Thanks in advance---Collard

Hey Collard,

Buy the book called Gold Leaf Techniques and read it cover to cover. There are multiple ways to do it and finish it off. For example, most are done on the inside of the glass and then backed up and cleared.... see the Bakery window thread on here.
It is also possible to oil gild the inside or outside and use the engine turning effect or any other effect as well. Glass is it's own animal, it doesn't have grip and I was once told, "If you can paint on glass, you can paint on anything", so try out a couple of test pieces first, I always do.

Good luck.
