Bad news for the gulf coast area

Post by Mike Jackson »

I've been watching news reports about all the devistation in Lousiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. I am sure we have a lot of Brothers and Sisters of the Brush displaced and damaged down there and our hearts go out to all of them. I can't even begin to imagine how I would handle anything even remotely similar.

New Orleans dodged the original bullet, but just about the entire area is now is being flooded by the failing dikes. The reporters seem to be at a loss for words to describe the full range of problems and devistation.

We normally don't stray off the topic too far here, but this one has certainly affected a bunch of our friends, businesses and way of life.

Best regards,

It's hard to imagine that much destruction in one place, and we still don't know the full extent of what has been done.

Those folks have a long, hard road ahead of them.

Kind of makes you stop and reflect on how temporary those "things" around us really are. It doesn't take much for them to be gone in an instance. I guess that is why my Mother was always telling me, "The best things in life are not things".

I don't know if the rules here prohibit prayer, but that's has been done a lot today for those whose lives have been turned upside down.

Have seen only scant reports on news here (the cbc is on strike) and my heart goes out to all in that area.....was it T.H.Huxley who said we are all just 7 meals from anarchy and civilization is less than skin deep?....?

Jeff Ogden is putting together a panel auction at his upcoming meet in Gainesville, with all the proceeds to go to Letterheads in the disaster region. Here's the link at Shortreed's site:

I know that there are quite a few in that area that are not internet/computer users. Is there any type of database or way to collect names and addresses, to figure out better who could use a hand?

Hi again,
I had CNN, MSNBC, and Fox on the TV by me for several days. It was getting very depressing watching all the misery and suffering in the affected areas, certainly making me thankful for not being in the middle of it. The news kept getting worse as the hours progressed.

We had planned a Labor Day Weekend camping trip for several weeks and decided to go ahead with the trip, leaving one vehicle at home to save gas money. When I turned the TV back on later in the day on Monday, it appeared things were finally getting under some sort of control.

Bless the people that need all the help!
