Signmaking 101: A weird trick

Post by Jill Marie Welsh »

When painting, if you happen to make a mistake or a drip:
Wrap your finger in a clean rag (or your T-Shirt)
Rub it in the corner of your nose (not up it)
Use the oils from your skin to wipe it up.
It doesn't hurt the substrate and it really works!
Sometimes when I get a drip, I turn it into a star.
But that only works on certain signs!

Hey Jill, brilliant minds, etc., I just told the nose grease story on another post!

But for the new version....nose grease 3.9, ya gotta get a bit o spit on the rag and "sterilize" that "wipe", no oil in the paint then....look out Roger, we gonna Bottle this stuff, two part, grease n' spit, a must for your kit!

Another trick is measuring things on the fly.
Yes I know I'm supposed to carry a tape measure everywhere but I often forget.
I even had one on my keychain till one of the kids gleeped it.
But if you ever find yourself on an estimate without a measuring device,
a rule of thumb is that a dollar bill (sometimes I don't even have that!) is 2.5x6 inches.
And the distance from your nose to the end of your fingertips is usually around a yard.
And you can walk a space with a heel-to-toe kinda weirdo gait to get a rough linear footage beacuse your foot measures around a foot.
(altho I am short and have small feet)
But it does give you a guideline of sorts until you can come back better-prepared.
