Is there a trick to getting the gold out of the glue chipped parts where it isn't suppost to be?
I have a piece I chipped that I'm finally happy with. I wanted to do some 23 kt gold on some areas & surface gild some verigated onto others, mainly as an experiment. In hindsght, I probably should have glass gilded the 23kt, backed that up, then surface gilded the verigated but I was about out of gold, so I rushed into doing the vergiated. I now have slivers of verigated in chips that are suppost to be 23kt. I figure if I had done the 23kt first, I'd have slivers of that in area that are suppost to be vergiated, but that wouldn't be quite as noticeable.

We use a toothbrush and bon ami when we can. Other times we have to used a Q-Tip and bon ami if we are scared of breaking down the back up paint. That is assuming you are talking about water gilded areas done in gold. Loose flakes of varigated leaf shouldn't stick too aggressively unless you have some residue of gold size, oily fingerprints, or similar material the gold is sticking to.
As a word of advice: Anytime you rush the process, you usually pay the price later!
