cutting laminated glass

Post by vance galliher »

I did a search both here and google but didn't come up with anything of use. I seem to remember that burning with alcohol is part of process, albiet dangerous. I have several sheet of laminated glass that I want to cut to smaller sizes.......any suggestions ? Thanks for all replies.

Score and run the glass w/ running pliers on both sides. 'Hinge' the glass at the cut line to open the cut up. Squirt in some alcohol or lighter fluid and light. Most safety glass consists of a plastic membrane laminated between two sheets of glass. The heat/flame melts the plastic, separating the cut sections.

It's not necessarily dangerous, unless you've got flammable objects lying around, which should have been cleared anyway.
