Dave Smith Goldleaf Workshop 2006
I've just done a Great 3 day Gold leaf workshop with Dave Smith at
his Studios in Torquay England, .
A Stunning Victorian letter S Panel worked in reverse, Using these
same ancient techniques from 100 years ago
A large glass panel with real acid etched outline- Then with Bright
Water gilding, and Multi colour brush and finger blended paintwork,
and using mother of pearl inlays
for the top of the letter
Dave is such a great guy and a master of his craft, If you ever get
the chance to do this, grab it with both hands,
I think Dave is planning other workshops , doing other letters in the
same style,
The workshop is well worth doing, and very intensive, -If only to see
his jaw dropping studios, and watch a true craftsman at work.
You can contact him at: chapman_and_smith@btinternet.com

Hiya John,
Yes The most exciting thing to happen to me in years
You would of loved to do this one-
We stuck to Dave's original idea ( which was a copy of an original 130 year old letter on a mirror in london)- This made it much easier to keep up-All using ther same colours at the same time ,but it was hard not to break out into wild colours- especially for the frame-

Thanks for Mentioning my workshop Wayne! And thanks to you Larry for placing up them phot'o's. we had a good time making this letter the techniques came out well and really pinged the letter out of the glass.
I have 2 more workshops at the end of this month so looking forward to them. I also plan to have 3 workshops over with you guy's next March using the same techniques and design but with more detail to the corners and borders. I will keep you posted on locations for all three in around October time. One will definatley be in Boise at Noel Weber's with John Studden and Noel Weber teaching with me. Also possibly one at Gary Godby's in Virginia, Should be a right old jolly! Hope some of you can make it ,It will be good to see you guy's again. I Hope you don't mind me mentioning the workshops here Mike.
Thanks
Dave

Look at the gilding on that "S"... go on...
Now that sounds like a very, very fine workshop, it does!

Greetings Dave!
Wow, musta’ been some workshop. What a wonderful historic and dynamite project to do. Looks like I better go out and get me a nice large piggy bank and start saving my extra coins now.
Seriously, please keep us all posted on where and when you anticipate doing the workshops on our side of the pond next year. I certain I'm not the only one that is interested in attending.
Regards,
Ron
