bury your first quill,
and a picture of your simple lettering style...
today you become a man.

The blood of your hand lettering has served you well,
now you must seek the four masters.

Hey Jenco! I almost forgot to thank you for the Gilder's Back-Up Spook Mask.

You know, the ones that you and those boys wore. We didn't have no Ma.....

So Pa cut the custom eye holes for us.

Comes in real handy when doing water gild back-up via pounce pattern!

Could probably use it on a bank job too! Nice...real nice!

Course, you known me, long as I've known you. Couldn't leave well enough alone...

You're a funny one, Jenco!

That frame,...made it out of an old discarded headboard and footboard I found out in the alley...and perfect timing too!

It's so strange you don't remember anything about my scrounging.

Little close up of one of the letters. Painted the black & puple backgound first, leaving the letters open. The random stripes across the letters were water gilded 16K. Using transparent screen ink, I tinted up some embossing varnish (1/3 Damar Varnish, 1/3 Rubbing Varnish, & 1/3 Resin Gel), looked like strawberry jam, but it sure didn't taste like it! Applied that liberally in the desired areas. After that was set up, it was spounged with red tinted shellac, then another application of the embossing varnish, and a second application of red shellac. When dry, it was fully coated with spray shellac and water gilded with 12K gold and backed up.

The background was done by building up various colors of transparent shellac. The spounge textures were softened by spritzing with denatured alcohol. Multiple layers of shellac were applied with each subsequent layer sealed with an acrylic spray. When complete, the entire background was surface gilded with silver leaf and backed up. This was a fun project and very freeform...and I enjoyed it!

On the spa and gym panels what was your procedure for the blast etching and the chipping combination?
Nice way to achieve the privacy factor.

Post by Tony Segale »

well, angel eyes, it's really very simple, if you use your head, you never lose.
refer back to the Blake 'n Jenco post for a few step by step photos...

1) mask the areas to remain clear glass
2) blast the exposed area
3) with the mask still on the clear glass areas, roll the blast areas with asphaltum
4) mask the areas to remain blasted only
5) blast the asphaltum away from the areas to be glue chipped
6)pour the glue into the areas to be chipped, repeat for double chipping after the first chip is complete

originally, the client was ok with clear lines,
she changed her mind at the final meeting wanting more privacy,
this did work out very well, thanks to 8 gauge.

But you know, the pity is, when I'm paid...
...I always follow my job through.

Well thanks, Sally.

I figured that was the proceedure. Just had to make sure as I thought that the chipping
might want to grab some of the area that was to be just etched only, and not leave a
clean line of definition between the etch and the chip.

Sometimes a man's reputation could depend on a mere scrap of information. Nice job on these.

Ya, I learned that trick from a fella, fella name a, Rick Glawson.

The process requires double chipping the glass, in order to define a clean line between the chipping and the sandblasted etch texture.

Speaking of Daddy Fine Gold...

I finished up this nice little "Fine Gold Sign Co." piece that I had started in the Unforeseeable Future.

Nice little addition to the Rick Glawson commemorative display I have down in the parlor.

Just found this picture online, thought I'd stick it in here...for those who remember, and for those that never made it there..... Aho, Rick Glawson!

I'm just keepin' an eye on things!

Jenco always told me, "Slow down! Slow down!"....cause there's NO reason to hurry!
He also said to "keep your mind right on what needs to be done".

Well, as I drove west, into the setting sun, at an easy pace, I saw a sign...a sign for an estate sale.
I love estate sales, especially those with rusty junk and such.

But this time, I arrived on the very day, to find, much to my surprise, this portrait of ole Ma and (not chyer) Pa Jenco!
Imagine that! I shwooped that sucker up in a heart beat!

Image

It also has the nicest antique frame I've been able to aquire! With the old glass too! Sweet!

If you've got any of these old frames you want to part with, you just let me know.

Also, let me give you a little advice...always keep a few hundred dollar bills in your boot...you might need them for an estate sale someday!

Thanks for the photos Larry, brings back a lot of sweet memories of rainy Febuary and the smell of turps in Wilmington - I sure miss Daddy Fine Gold.

...and here I thought, the best advice just not to take any dam advice.

I seem to have misplaced my tape measure. I can't see clearly.
Perhaps I will see more clearly after a nice chaw of sushi.

So I went out for that chaw of sushi...fixed up my ol' gut.

Now I see everything perfectly, building by building.

I recieved a letter...from the folks at icollector.com....assuring me of an auction there.

If I ever get the money...I'd like to buy every single one. But for now, I just cop the images.

Thought you might like to do the same....but I don't know.

Some nice stuff there. Nice frames too! It's so strange you don't remember anything about my frame obsession.

Wouldn't be too surprised if Rick Glawson had a hand in a few of those.
