Coats Of Arms and Acid Etching

Post by DAVE SMITH »

Here are Some interesting images of acid and gilded panel work which was used on a big scale here in England from around 1880's up to this present day,. You still find these works around our towns and cities hidden away behind plastic fascias and above private residents and listed buildings . Wayne Osbourn sent me the Borelli images which he took photos of , he may come on and explain where they are today .the other is one of 6 glass signs I came across down a side street in the city called Bristol here in the uk , I don't think they are toned acid panels ,there is some mica etching on the last image along with normal acid embossing .They would have also done work like this has 3 toned acid and matt centres . A nice look for this type of work.........

Thanks for posting those Dave- (This Glass sign spotting is getting really addictive)

I found that window in Farnham. on the borders of Surrey here in the UK.- Just a very un-assuming ladys hair salon- But with the fanlight window carefully preserved.- and all that remains of the clock makers that was once there.

Horse?

Post by John Yarnell »

Dave, is the horse and parts of the crown finished in silver or a white gold?

Thanks John

The Unicorn body is definately a white effect ( rather than a lemon gold look about it)

I grabbed those shots when i was working across the street- The trouble was I had to stand in the middle of a busy road to get the shots and trying to do it without being run over..or questioned too heavily by the salon owners.

I promise to go back someday with a pair of steps and a good camera - and to kindly ask permission to get some quality close up pics, and maye findout a little more about it.
