La Belle Supreme...New and Improved!

This here La Belle Supreme sign I got, that all those boys made. I wasn't able
to make it, so Mr. D did all the fancy glass etching for me. Told me not to tell
no one. Imagine, a grown man doing that for his own bro. He probably sang a
little song as he gilded it. You know "Rose of Alabama" Johnny?

A few weeks later I was able to make it down there and we did the blended gild
and wedged some sushi. Brought it home and finished it up. Now I've got it
framed up and hanging in my art studio. Nice addition Mr. D! Thanks! See ya
soon...for fish and what-not!

Here's a couple of details (by popular demand)....

Tip of the day: The colored shade around the circle was airbrushed with tinted shellac,
which is optically clear. Then the beige color was blocked in with japan color. With this
method, the shellac glaze is uneffected by the brushing of a solvent based paint over it.

Beautiful piece...and why Mr.D wants to remain "a craftsman from the shadows" I can't imagine. If you can would love to see another shot of the ornaments. You're a Lucky Guy too!

You made a real nice job of that piece Larry. The v cut is a great look to this type of sign.
Is the blend you talked about in the centre for the gold? I can't quiet tell from the pic
Always good to see what your upto.

Hi Dave-
Yes, the gild over the textured acid etching is blended from 23K on the outer edges to 16K in the center, with 18K inbetween the two. The 23K ends and the 16K center are gilded at the same time. After they're dry and burnished, I used a glass brush to fade the the two gilds. Then the 18K was gilded over the two. When dry, it was burnished, outlined, and backed-up. The excess gold was then removed.

Look forward to seeing you soon!
