Disclaimer Sheet for Magnetics

Post by Mike Jackson »

Hello all,
One of our least favorite products are the magnetic signs. We normally tell the clients we'd rather letter the signs directly onto the vehicle than use magnitic sheets. I guess their is some sort of need and niche for them and Darla still does a few throughout the year. She had a call yesterday from someone having trouble getting a magnetic off a vehicle after it had been on for 6 months or longer.

I am getting ready to write up a little hand out sheet for her which has the "manufacturer's suggested techniques" and a fairly detailed disclaimer. We don't want to be responsible for paint damage to the vehicle or failure of the material including loss, cracks, bubbles, warping and so forth.

Does anyone already have a similar sheet or document?

I used to have one but I do so few now that it appears to be lost. At least it is not on this computer but I think that was at least two computers ago. I will check the old files when I have a chance. Mine was based upon a care sheet provided by Goodyear for their brand of material and I have seen one from Ultra-Mag in the past.

Hi Kent,
I called Midwest Sign Supply asking about the care sheets. Jim is sending me a few dozen or the little booklets and I will add in my little blurb about us not being responsible for bubbles, cracks, splits, loss and so forth. Basically, they are temporary signage to fit a specific short term need.

No need to look into old files for me...I have what I need coming now.

Howdy, Mike...

I think I have one rolled up in the roll of magnetics, sittin high on a shelf collectin dust.
Ain't good for some folks to use those magsnetics.
I often ask them why would you want to rust out your door when you could have a beautiful hand lettering job, or worse a case of sticky letters. And if you want to hide, what kind of business person are you? You like to hit and run, or waste money on others ads?

guess I'm talkin like a darn preacher, but it's their fault...
what can you expect from a person who wants to be in business and not be in business at the same time.

Hi Tony,
We have a couple of clients with seasonal vans. Darla lettered it "permanently" for the winter snowmobiling part of their business. For the summer, they need to cover that up and add lettering for the whitewater rafting. So, as much as we dislike the product, we are more or less forced into using it on occasions.

just a few chuckles here....
perhaps you can work a deal with the local van dealers...
for every season, letter, letter, letter, there is a reason...for a van

rather nutty back here in California...pretty swamped with work, while trying not to work...
playing with my watercolors and mental health gilding days with Mr Blake, er White.
Seems the way to stay real busy is to talk about going to a four day work week and take those days off no matter what!

That magnetic material becomes "sick" over time. It degrades as the plastizer gases off much like the vinyl interior in your car, thus becoming brittle.
I think it would be a good idea to apply a layer of good quality sign vinyl on the back side to prevent it from attaching to the
cars paint over time and provide a more stable substrate for removing the sign in one piece.
