Angel Gilding
I did a search to see if anybody has talked about 'Angel Gilding' as
to not be redundant but it appears nobody has.
My Question; It would appear angel gilding would be a simpler
solution to gold leafing but I don't know that many people practice it.
I saw Rick Glawson do a demo once and I bought a kit to try it but
couldn't get the system to work for me. Do others with angel guilding
and what is your success rate? I am going to buy video from
angelguilding.com and give it a whirl again. Is angel gilding more cost
effective than regular gilding?

Mark, if you already found Angelgilding.com, you have the necessary links to get the supplies. I did a search on this forum and found 33 mentions of the word "angel". I am sure you can read a lot of information on this topic.
If you want to do your own search, click the SEARCH tab at the top, then type in "angel".

Re: Angel Guilding
Hi Mark,
welcome!
Did you do a search on this site? I selected the search tab at the top of this screen and got 19 hits for angel guilding.
Read though those posts and you'll get a good idea of what others use it for.
The gold kits Sara sells is totally different from Ricks, is reliable and consistent.
Biggest plus for angel gilding is over chipped glass, and large areas of gold. Gild chipped glass by laying leaf and you're likely to do it 2-3 times for good coverage. Angle gild, followed by silver and your done.

Mark-
I have Angel Gilded quite a bit. The gold formula developed by Sarah King at Angelgilding.com is different than the one Rick was using. This new formulation is much more stable and predictable. The only time I've had it not work, is when my glass wasn't clean enough. Due to the nature of the process, it's neccessary to have the correct set-up to do it. It requires maticulous precision in following the directions. I believe Sarah also has an instructional video now. For me, it's always worked grand. It is significantly cheaper than leaf, and looks exquisite over glue chipping. Angel gilding, along with silvering and the other chemically deposited metals, are a great tool in the bag of tricks.

Re: Angel Guilding
Thanks for everybody's input. Guess I did the search incorrectly.
Angel guilding sounds like the way to go after listening to everyone.
I think the video will tell me all the details. Can't wait. I really wasn't
that good with guilding from the loose leaf. I remember seeing
Bob Mitchell's glass work in Aspen, Colorado many years ago. I uses
to just marvel at his glass work. He would lay down leaf like you
were looking at angel guilding. Anybody ever hear what happened
to Bob Mitchell? I think his eyes went bad and was going blind from
macular degeneration I think. One of the original Denver Letterheads.

Re: Angel Guilding
Mark...ditto on Sarah's kits and video.
Bob is alive and well and living in Escondido, CA. He and Lynn were in Salt Lake for Christmas at his sister's and we corresponded some then. He is out of the business but doing designing instead. His issue is more hearing loss, making it difficult to work with clients and in noisy shops. I am not aware of sight issues.

I was just guessing on the eyesight, it's been some long time ago
that I thought of Bob Mitchell. Real talented guy though.

Re: Angel Guilding
Thanks for the wonderful comments - you all are the best.
On the spelling thing "gild" means applying gold and "guild" means an association of craftsmen so what we have here is a guild of gilders - The Gilders Guild - a generous, guilless group - haha.
