spun gold

Post by Jerry Berg »

I'm thinking I've seen it before on a R.O.G. piece before. After a bright outline, can I spin the matte center
and have it look like spun gold when I view it from the front? If so, anything I need to know about first?

Thanks,
Jerry

R.O.G.

Reverse On Glass

And yes, you can spin gold on the reverse side of glass.

Use clear oil size, let it tack up, apply gold, and spin it.

I use slow clear oil size.

I suppose you could use clear quick size..not sure though.

I 'assumed' the definition of R.O.G., but we all know what you get when you assume.

Remember, there have been 32 new members join in the last 3 months. Among that number, many may be completely new to glass work, and quite reluctant to ask.

As to knowing more words, come on.... use the tools you have, they're right in front of you. Just type in acronyms and or texting and see what you get. :)

You can use any size on glass and the spin will show through, even if the size is tinted, some spin will show depending upon how deep a tint there is.

I don't like to use aconyms...LOL

And should one spin directly after applying the gold or is waiting for some extra hours recommendable?

You should spin right away while there is some cushion from the size so you only scratch the gold, not tearing into the size itself.

You can spin a water gild with steel wool or a glass brush and to enhance the effect, gild with a different Karat of gold. The effect is not the same, but more like adding a swirl to the gold. I have seen this used more in dingbats and other trim, pictorials etc.

Well, Dave already answered the question.

Check his post under Eigenbrot Brewery Curved glass signs, May 16th.

It's all there.
